Dylon fail!!

I have recently dyed some sofa covers with Dylon machine dye and it went horribly wrong - I put them all through in one wash and they’re now all patchy and definitely not useable.

Is it worth trying again? Has anyone had a success with Dylon?! I’m scared to spend more money trying but new sofa covers in the colour we want are so expensive!!

If I do try again, should I use pre-dye to get the fabric back to it’s original state??

It’s a cotton/polyester mix which apparently is ok with Dylon, the colour might just be lighter...

Any advice would be helpful!

Thanks

Did you use salt?

It sounds as though you put too much fabric in the machine, & it was all screwed up. It should give a weight guide.

1 sachet to one cover plus salt maybe?

Stick with the colour required. I wouldnt try to dye them back.

You had too much fabric in the machine at once and it didn’t have enough space to move about freely in the drum, this is why it’s patchy. There are fabric weight guides on the dye box.

If you dye patchy covers again, they’ll still be patchy, but darker. You’ll need to strip out all colour with the pre-dye treatment.

The new Dylon machine dye doesn’t always need salt - some of the more popular colours have been developed not to beef it (I guess it’s already in there).,

Good luck!

Weigh the dry fabric so you know how much dye, etc. to use and start again by using the pre dye colour remover then split the load of covers and use the appropriate number of packs of dye.
