Natural floorings - experiences please

We were all set to install sisal flooring upstairs and on the staircase but our carpet fitter has advised us against it, saying it is a nightmare when it comes to stains.

Anyone got any experience of floorings such as sisal, jute, seagrass or coir?

How have they survived alongside family life, kids, pets etc?

We've got sisal - it looks great and is extremely hard wearing. BUT it does stain - if you spill a lot of water it will need to be dried straight away or you get a stain forever. I still love it though!

We really enjoyed wanted it but decided that something that gets stained by water probably wasn’t a goer with a toddler. Now trying to find something more durable that looks similar

We had this type of flooring in our hallway years ago. The puppy peed on it and it left a stain even after cleaning it.

We had it in the hall/stairways our old house - really suited the period property and looked great.... until our dog had a funny tummy one day.... 😱😱😱. If there are children and pets in the mix I’d unfortunately say steer well clear.

That's great advice everyone and certainly made me think twice sadly.

May have to go back to the drawing board and look for alternatives...

Look at the alternative flooring range. They are beautiful.

This one is quite durable and is lovely in real life.

Glad I've read this as had no idea about the staining! I'm also interested to hear about other people's thoughts on jute etc

Sisal and coir are lovely but not if they get wet.
You could use cork and maybe seal it.
