Hi,

I have had a kitchen designed but I would love to hear people’s comments, thoughts or ideas that might improve it in some way.

Thanks
Kerry

What a lot of cupboards! What about having some open shelving or glass fronted cabinets to break it up a bit.

The first picture with the oven and fridge looks overcrowded. I know you'll loose cupboard space but I think it would look better with the oven at ground level and a wall cupboard above and work surface.
The microwave makes the area over the hob look unbalanced. It would be better with matching wall cupboards either side of the hob.

Fridge door will dent on the oven handles. Microwave too high for most people, so a danger.
DW is a trip hazzard between hob and sink. Yeah it's the usual crappy dangerous rubbish you nearly always get from Howden's . Go to a proper credible designer then shop around with one plan. This is awful .

Floor to ceiling cupboards with no work surface hold much more stuff. Hanging cupboards really aren’t practical or cost effective.

I wouldn't put an oven right next to a fridge-freezer - that's asking for an ongoing drama for breakdown repairs because the cooling fans will have to do extra work if the air around the fridge-freezer is hot from the oven.

Agree the microwave is much too high up and a danger. Someone will pour boiling beans/ liquid down themselves.
Will the heat of the oven impact of the effectiveness of the fridge? They are very close together.
Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

Scatternobrains · 06/08/2018 18:37

Nope these are exactly what I need to hear. I had a feeling it wasn’t a great design but I’m a bit clueless as never done this before - I thought they would be the experts 😬

Agree, it could be improved.
I've got fridge / freezer next to ovens .... it's not ideal but not the biggest problem. Your design just looks clunky there because it's a big free-standing fridge/freezer. It would look much sleeker with integrated FF (although that may not be your taste admittedly).

That corner next to oven is going to become dead space. If you leave the layout as is, then you might be better with a wall cupboard which comes down to worktop level, and use it to store toaster / etc. In my equivalent corner, I've got a glass wall cupboard, with lights in it. Which brightens the area.

My parents have got their microwave in the same place as on your plan, and it does look "off-centre". I've got 1 1/2 ovens plus microwave in a tower. Microwave is slight lower than yours, I tend to use the 1/2 oven (other than Christmas Day!!), but full oven is probably only same height as if it were under-worktop.

Wall cupboards are a personal taste versus trend issue at the moment ..... definite trend for fewer wall cupboards, but depends if that leaves you with enough storage and / or if you like things being on display.

Do you have space for a table on the blank wall? Or do you need to factor in seating anywhere?

Scatternobrains · 06/08/2018 18:54

Would it be better to have the fridge freezer and then a mid height mircrowave with a small cupboard underneath. And then down to normal height into the corner and round with double oven under the job and wall cupboards only along the wall where the job is so no wall cupboards on the fridge/microwave wall?

Either that, or put the microwave & ovens in one tower unit. Ideally near the work surface where you'd prepare and / or serve the food.
