Colour testers mixed with white

Can I mix a dulux feature wall colour tester (so strongly pigmented) with dulux white emulsion to make a far cheaper 'hint of white' paint. I mean, obviously I can try it, but has anyone done this successfully? I'd get 7L of paint for a big room for £17 so it's really tempting...
Thanks for thoughts

It's fine mixing your own colours just mix very very well, paint in even coats and make sure you make up enough to do the lot in one go as it'll be a nightmare to match exactly if you need another tin.

Ooo what you thinking of moving in OP?

As mentioned above, you have to mix the whole lot in one go to ensure consistency of colour - even if you think you are mixing the same ratios on two different occasions, you will get a small difference.

We did it - mixed a deep blue tester with white to get a cheap shade of baby blue for our son's nursery nine years ago!

We have done this, we always end up making it too dark and having to add more white!

Thanks all - my tester is Mulberry Burst, so I'll add a quarter to 5L of white and take it from there. DH is away this weekend so I can possibly hide the evidence if it's a disaster...

You only need the tiniest amount to tint it. As others have said, make up your whole batch at once and stir for hours otherwise you'll end up with a mess.

Why not just get the colour you want mixed? It’s really not that much more price wise. And means you don’t need to worry about running out & touching up in the future

MrsCapGarland · 02/08/2018 08:34

Thanks again - I'll start adding very gently... I'm happy with something that is more coloured than a shade of white.
The price difference is actually quite high, and it's been an expensive summer so money is tight!
