Is there a paint colour that means I can keep my yellowish blinds?

Just that really, Inherited room colour is magnolia, decorator coming to look tomorrow. I would really like a pale blue - everything else is very neutral with blue ish bits.

I am resigned to renewing the blinds but have got six 8ft tall windows in this room and four more rooms that are much much worse colour wise so ££££. If I could find A paint colour that worked I would be happy but I am stuck.

You could dye them if thats an option for you. If not blue would go and put traces ofvthe volour from the blind around the room too

theboxofdelights · 16/07/2018 21:05

Thanks tactic, they aren't natural fabric so wouldn't dye.

I wouldn't want the colour anywhere else tbh, compared to the rest of them they are almost ok, but only almost. I have got 22 windows and they all need new blinds. I just wondered if there was any way of making them work but of course I am almost sure there isn't! Hence the question.

The way to minimise their impact is to go for a wall colour which also contains yellow.
This could actually be quite subtle.
Blue would also go but would make them look more yellow. Also blue and yellow can look a bit 80's

Samanabanana · 17/07/2018 11:14

I would go pale grey with yellow.

Emeraldeve · 17/07/2018 14:09

I second lake gray

Emeraldeve · 17/07/2018 14:09

Should say pale!

theboxofdelights · 18/07/2018 08:01

Thanks all, have decided that blinds have got to go ..... I don’t like grey, such a shame they are yellowish cream.

Op you’re blinds looks very neutral and aren’t exactly a bright yellow. I think they would go with whites or even a pale blue.

PasstheStarmix · 18/07/2018 09:46

Or a sandy/taupe colour

PasstheStarmix · 18/07/2018 09:46

your*

PasstheStarmix · 18/07/2018 09:47

I’d say they are more of a cream colour

PasstheStarmix · 18/07/2018 09:48

Dusty blue would look lovely too

Maybeicanhelp · 18/07/2018 10:08

That's a shame OP.

I would go with taupe too, I think it would work.

Could you get a small pot of emulsion and try it out on the one wall? It wouldn't be too costly in the scheme of things.

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2018 10:37

Grey doesn't work with a pale yellow.

theboxofdelights · 18/07/2018 17:33

Thanks I might try taupe hadn’t thought of that - they are definitely more yellow than cream but worth a go. I think there is enough light in the room for taupe. I think these show the yellow more.

I had blue and yellow in my first home in the 80s! Grin

I think they look rather nice. What aboit a wallpaper with yellow in. Laura Ashley/ scion/ Orla Kiely all have great ones depending on your taste?

theboxofdelights · 18/07/2018 20:16

I don't do wallpaper wild, not my thing.

Amazingly I have started to see the blind colour in a couple of cushions and am thinking it might work with taupe thanks to everyone on this thread. Just the yellowy colour on this highland cow's fringe on the sofa next to the window makes it almost work.

Hopefully I like the taupe paint - I have got a couple of colour charts but can't see the names without my specs but will get a couple of testers at the weekend.

These would loom.fabulous with Farrow and Ball's Vardo. It's a deep teal colour, so not for those who only want neutrals. Alternatively consider a grey-green like mizzle. I've sent had work with a pale lemon. My first choice would be vardo. With those large windows it would be marvellous.

SheldonandPenny · 18/07/2018 20:23

Stupid predictive text! Why does it upload like this?? Duh! I've seen mizzle work with yellow-cream...but vardo would have more impact and wow with those wonderful windows.

Vardo would give me the vapours sheldon Grin very not me at all but thank you.

I really wanted to paint it something like Skylight but then worked out that I would need to spend more than a grand replacing the blinds in this room if I didn't take them into account.

I have got a pot of cash that I need to spend on the house and I want to stick to my budget so that I can get it all done this year (not a forever house).

If the blinds completely bug me I suppose I could change them later on when I have done everything else but I will only be getting the decorating done once. I might even find time to make blinds next year, I used to make all my own but am far too busy with work right now.

espresso - cross post Grin. I have always made all my blinds and curtains but am just too busy. Did the courses at Merrick and Day years and years ago and always use their kits but my brain is completely frazzled with work and I really don't fancy doing them in my spare time which is very limited this year.

If you're looking at taupe, Dulux do a colour card called Labrador Sands which gradiates from 1 lightest to 5 darkest. It seems to work in many lights. I used both 2 and 4 in previous houses to good effect.

theboxofdelights · 19/07/2018 07:57

Thanks wild, I go to a local independent builders merchant that has every colour card in the world and mixes anyone's paint colour into Leyland Trade. I will look at that colour.

I have got a dulux heritage card and F&B and to be honest there is so much choice (too much choice). I quite like Dulux's Pale Walnut or maybe Pumice Brown if I go darker in the taupes.

Better if I find something that isn't heritage paint as then I can just buy the new colour testers from Dulux that fit through your letterbox for a couple of quid.

I have invested far too much time in this Grin due to trying to save the blinds!
