Help me find the right grey...

Hi everyone
I am looking for the right pale grey for part of my upstairs landing and that I can also use in the adjoining bathroom and kids bedrooms. These parts of the house are all really light....but I have a darker bit of upstairs landing too which will be Egyptian cotton or just walnut so I want a pale (true) grey that will blend in with that. Colour will be on its own in the bathroom, with blue and yellow in my sons bedroom , and with turquoise in my daughters bedroom . I would really like to find a grey I can use in all of these rooms if possible. Dulux or equiv price ideally as this is what the decorator has priced on....can anyone help?

Farrow and Ball ammonite is perfect. You don’t have to buy F&B paint though, you can go to Brewers and get it mixed up to a johnstones or similar. I have this in my bathroom and it’s a perfect pale grey with no lilac or blue tones.. I spent a long time researching and this colour seems to be recommended a lot as a true pale grey.

Or dulux polished pebble...I see a lot of recommendations for that. I have it in my bathroom (west facing) and it's a bit too cool/blue for me but not dreadful...

We used Farrow and Ball Wevet on our downstairs and upstairs halls. In certain lights it can have a slightly lilac tinge. I hope you can see the contrast between the white of the stairs. Apologies for dust on the stairs, too hot to hoover. 😬

Just in case anyone else is decorating, the carpet runner on the stairs looks great but the wooden, painted sides attract every bit of dust on the planet, it seems. Don't think I'd do it again for that reason.

Elephant is a nice colour!

ss2011 · 05/07/2018 17:06

Thanks everyone. I do like F&B ammonite and Wevet....was just hoping to find a dulux one - but good tip on the colour mixing though. Bagelgoeswslking....have been wondering whether to do that on my stairs or not so that’s great feedback. Polished pebble looks blue in my house when I put testers up too. Any other suggestions for dulux greys?

It's the only F&B we used in the house, all the others were Dulux.

It is my duty to pass on anything that increases the need for domestic drudgery 😬

Chic shadow by Dulux is a true grey imo. We used it in our nursery when all the other greys looked too bluey

2018dramaqueen · 05/07/2018 17:50

Dulux chic shadow is lovely. A true grey, no blue or lilac tones.

Goose Down ?

ss2011 · 05/07/2018 22:23

I have just been playing with some testers.....polished pebble is definitely looking blue in my house (maybe it’s my eyes though!), and chic shadow is lovely but just a little bit too dark. Slinkysaluki - goosedown might do it...going to order a tester of that one now, thank you.

Dulux Timeless Classic Flat Matt in Engraved Locket (you have to get it mixed to order at places like Homebase)

JellyTeapot · 05/07/2018 22:33

Dulux trade swansdown is a lovely pale grey, no hint of blue or lilac.

BagelGoesWalking · 05/07/2018 23:46

The paint names make me laugh. I'd love that job!

ss2011 · 06/07/2018 08:16

Me too bagelgoeswalking....might be tempted to name some of them for what they actually look like though!

Is Dulux Rock Salt too white?

MissMarplesKnitting · 06/07/2018 12:32

I like the crown clay white which is very neutral in tone, it picks up what's around it.

In our bedroom it's picked up the warmth of the yellow in there, and downstairs it's picked up the blue tones in the lounge.

doodle5 · 06/07/2018 14:08

Have you tried Dulux Pebble shore? I think it may be a slightly warmer and paler tone than the polished pebble.

Otherwise Dulux Just Walnut, if you want quite a pale warm grey.

I have Dulux trade Khaki Mist 2, and Dusted Moss 2. Both very neutral greys.
