Has anybody painted an already dark kitchen with darkish paint?

My east facing kitchen diner can be pretty dark at times. It has horrible grey floors and grey worktops. It’s proving really difficult to find a nice colour for the walls.

Light grey looked too blah and bland. Pale green is not great either. I’m considering painting it Dulux Warm Pewter but am worried it will be just too much grey?

I think you need a warm colour, whether it's a pale tone or not.

Something with an orange, yellow or pink bade .

Base

Warm colours make rooms look snaller. Dark cool colours make rooms look bigger. The room will be dark no matter what you do. At least you can make it look bigger.

A pink might work? Calamine - get it copied by Valspar.

I decorated an East facing room in Joas white and it looked great. That's pinkish taupe, but pale.

Whatfreshhellisthis18 · 30/06/2018 17:31

It doesn’t really need to look any bigger. It just needs to look less boring!

I like the idea of pink but DH would never agree.

Joas white would clash with all the grey I think.

What about Vardo? Looks lovely, would work well with grey.

SwedishEdith · 30/06/2018 17:43

Or Canton? Little Greene

Found a pic of my actual kitchen.

I don't think dark would look stunning.

How about a warm light blue such as borrowed light?

BeyondRaggydoll · 30/06/2018 19:06

Mine is a dark galley kitchen, grey floor and worktops, beech units. I have white tiles on the wall that the cooker and sink are on, then the rest is painted turquoise.

Mrsramsayscat · 30/06/2018 19:15

It looks surprisingly blue in a darker room.

Also Hay would be nice. Or a brighter green? If F and B you'd need to experiment but on paper breakfast room green or yearbridge green look good.

I don’t think anything would look stunning as the rest of it’s so crap. I really need new worktop and floor.

It can’t be farrow and ball as I need hard wearing scrubbable paint.

Mylands Shoreditch in Marble Emulsion.

Or a deep warm teal - like F&B Hague Blue - Dulux Sapphire Salute?

Or be bold and go for a strong deep pink or red - Mylands Bloomsbury is fabulous, or Huguenot. You could accessorise with Kelly green accents, would be warm and strong and original. I know your dh said no pinks, but these are WARRIOR pinks.
