Thinking of having kitchen units painted in a copy of this. I want the colour to be kind of a soft mushroomy/putty shade. Have you got experience of this colour? How would you describe it? Kitchen is west facing and quite dark til late afternoon.. pics would be great!

Pic from another angle. Just realised I'm posting these on the wrong thread as my other thread was about f and b colours for chairs but you may have read that one too. Ignore the wall colour, it's being changed but that's a whole other subject!! Confused

@Blueesheep8 very pretty, I think leave them see how they look with the the wall/cupboards you can always repaint in stronger colours.
Chairs are quite easy to do, more fiddly than difficult.
I do like them though.

dontcallmelen · 01/07/2018 15:29

What would you call the drop cloth colour?

Bluesheep8 · 02/07/2018 05:20

Agree about waiting til walls and cupboards are done and maybe re doing them. Drop cloth is actually the kind of putty/pale mushroom I was after and may paint units in it. To me, it's a shade deeper and slightly cooler than skimming stone. I really like it.

Also, have checked the f and b website for complimentary colours for drop cloth and it suggests shadow white or shaded white so I'm going to look at those for the walls. Has anyone got any opinions/experience of either of these?

Shaded white one of my favourite F&B colours. Most of last house was this colour, sometimes grey, sometimes green/grey or light putty/green/grey. Looked good with stony ground kitchen units, think it would be fab with drop cloth.

Ketzele · 02/07/2018 13:19

This thread is my happy place. Am also considering dropcloth and shaded/shadow white for kitchen.

dontcallmelen · 02/07/2018 14:04

Haha it’s my happy place to.
Yes I’m definitely going to get a tester of drop cloth, possibly some whites & purbeck as well.
@Ketzele did you see the pics I posted on page 1 any thoughts on how too bring the rooms together a bit more?

Bluesheep8 · 02/07/2018 15:19

Yes this thread is my happy place too at the moment! Nice to find myself amongst fellow paint shade-obsessives and really useful to share insights and opinions.

And thanks for the info on shaded white. Going to get myself a tester to see.

@Bluesheep8, let me know what you think of the shaded white.
My problem I think as well, is that the light is so different in the kitchen it’s very bright, but the hall, front room & dining room is quite a bit darker, also I’m not so keen on the greeny undertones you find in some whites as they just look a bit depressing in the rooms that are a bit gloomier, my front room/hall are north facing & the front door has all different coloured glass (it’s the original Victorian door) so again doesn’t let in a great deal of light, until late afternoon.
I’m tying myself up in knots, thinking of schemes/shades.

Bluesheep8 · 02/07/2018 20:32

@dontcallmelen hoping to get a tester of shaded and shadow white. May have one in utility and one in the kitchen. Plan to paint big sheets of paper to compare and will post pics.

Bluesheep, great look forward to pics & what you think.

dontcallmelen · 25/07/2018 16:28

@Bluesheep8 how are you doing with the testers? I’m still faffing about with colour cards for hall/front room & kitchen😳

Bluesheep8 · 26/07/2018 13:04

Hello! So this is where I'm at (I think!) Units will be dropcloth and walls shadow white. Will try to post pics of tester patches when I get home..although the drop cloth patch I've painted looks greeny in certain light....here we go again!

StoatOfManyColours · 26/07/2018 13:16

So this is where you all are! I've found my people. Grin

I have Shaded White outdoors, and Shadow White indoors, both of which have a green tinge depending on the light. I like that though.

I like the Purbeck Stone/Strong White combo of upthread, v nice.

OP, if you're worried your chairs aren't contrast-y enough you could go for something like Stone Blue.

dontcallmelen · 26/07/2018 14:09

@Bluesheep8 ooh look forward to the tester pics, I’m tempted with the drop cloth for my units as well, they are currently Fitzrovia by Mylands which is a pale mushroomy colour, but bit worried that it very similar.
I think I need to get some testers of drop cloth & the shaded white & purbeck as I really want to try & get the hall/frontroom/kitchen too flow a bit more.

Bluesheep8 · 26/07/2018 19:05

Pics. Drop cloth on side of cabinet and shaded (left) and shadow (right) white on wall. Must be the light as drop cloth looks totally different compared to how it looks on the chairs I've painted in the same colour. I'm thinking shadow white for the walls....

That's shaded white above the drop cloth on the cabinet by the way

Bumping this for contributions. Like the blue suggestion, thank you!

Hi Bluesheep, agree that dropcloth looks much darker than the previous chair pic, that blue mentioned by pp look s lovely on the colour card, must admit I do like blues with mushroomy tones seems to go so well, I’m still going round in circles really need to get some testers I’m the same as you not keen on the greeny tinge, which I think is very dependent on what type of light you have in a room.

dontcallmelen · 29/07/2018 19:47

@Bluesheep8 I can post a pic of my kitchen tomorrow, my cabinets are a very pale mushroom sort of colour, with blue walls if that might help.

Bluesheep8 · 30/07/2018 11:09

Hi dontcallmelen, that would be great. Thanks..yes you're right, drop cloth looks totally different on the cupboard in comparison to the chair! It's all so confusing!! Confused

OP posts:
dontcallmelen · 30/07/2018 16:23
