Should I be expecting poor quality for this price? (bed frame)

I've seen this bed frame, but for the price do you think I should be expecting it to fall apart quickly?? I'm especially concerned about the rattan headboard if being lent against a lot and general structural integrity? I like to buy once and buy right if possible, and it doesn't say what type of wood it is so I'd need to find that out...

I would really like an antique French or Swedish bed but they all seem to have high foot boards and DH dangles his feet off of the end of the bed so has vetoed them all. Sobs

After a two months of looking I've not found anything within our price range (sub £1000) which is bang on, and am now looking back through all the websites to find something that is a compromise.

We can't do upholstery as our cats will rip it to shreds, and all our furniture is vintage/ antique dark wood so no light oak/ash/pine will work, (although I suppose I could paint the wood, but wouldn't want to have to paint an expensive bed frame I don't think). The headboard has to be high enough to lean against so lots of the retro styled darker wood ones has also been vetoed.

Thanks everyone!

Short answer: no. If that's the price for the bed frame, I would expect it to last. But for what you're looking for, have you tried Taurus Beds? They just make wooden beds and matching furniture, in a variety of styles and finishes, around that price mark (not including mattress), so you might find something that works with your furniture.

I would think it would be fine though I would share your concerns about the wearing of the rattan so would be careful with it. If you haven't already, check out Original Bedstead Company www.obc-uk.net which have super affordable traditional style beds (we have two and they're great). Sweetpea and Willow also have some French style Kingsize beds with no footboard for just under 1K.

That's my bed! It's brilliant: good quality, assembled in 15 minutes and 3 years later it looks as new.

I wouldn't trust it anywhere near cats, and a heavy handed (heavy headed?) person could probably ruin the rattan through carelessness, but if you're vaguely careful with it it'll be fine.

Worth noting, however, that the mattress in the stock photo must be about 4" thick. With my 12" mattress plus topper, quite a lot of the headboard is lost. It bothered me initially but I've grown to love it.

that's almost identical to my bed which is from Loaf, and which seems really sturdy (had it 2 years now)

Margot bed

If you're anywhere near Cambridgeshire/Suffolk, I discovered an amazing shop last week where they have lots of Loaf things for half price - they had my bed there in scuffed grey for £300! It's called Homebrands. Their website is rubbish - you have to actually go there and look

Thank everyone, and thanks Faustina, I'll look into tripping to homebrands!

Hey OP - hopefully you get an email notification about my post Grin

Just wondered whether you ended up getting this bed? I've been looking at it myself but would like to hear more reviews!

WhistlingBrooks · 15/01/2019 11:59

I bought two beds from time4sleep in 2012 and they are sturdy as hell.
