Would you paint your house pink?

We are in the process of buying a new house. First rendered and painted house we’ve owned. It currently looks nice and bright painted a light cream colour but my husband mentioned we could paint it any colour we like. It’s a historic street and other houses have been painted (there’s some yellow and green and blue houses). He also mentioned that a traditional Suffolk pink colour would be his preference. It’s a particular shade of salmon pink. There are loads of very old pink houses around this area (north Essex very close to Suffolk) but I still feel it could be a bit much! I think I’d probably go for a sage green or blue. What do people think about having a pink house? They do look nice and warm and welcoming. The house is 1920’s but the style is plain but matching with the older Georgian and earlier rendered houses on the street.

For context this is a photo of part of the street we are moving to! Don’t want to put a pic of the actual house up (we haven’t exchanged yet!)

Pink sounds lovely. 💕

I would love to. I love those Suffolk pink houses. (However, I live in London). You might have to get permission? But my answer is yes!

I grew up in Suffolk and went back there on holiday last week, and I really enjoyed pointing out the pink houses to my children.

That sounds like a lovely idea. Although you may get people photographing your home... I see a lot of pastel coloured housea on IG.

I used to live in a pink house! Aberdeenshire pink granite harling/render. Lots of castles where I grew up are pink. goo.gl/images/uhhiHM

I probably would have to look at what we can do, while the house isn’t listed itself the whole area is classed as a conservation area so there will be rules to follow I expect! DH also wants to name the house, he’s very excited for this! It’s our forever home.

Whatever colour you go for, sound very exciting!

Looks like Saffron Walden although a lot of towns up here look like that. Any of the pastel colours would be fine, and not look out of place. Makes a change from all being painted cream

Take your time and live in it for awhile. Look at where your sun rises and sets, if it's a cool area then perhaps a warm colour like the pink would suit, decide on what kind of planting you might want, if you like red, pink or orange flowers then a cooler colour like blue or green would show them off better.
Suffolk Pink dates back to the 14th century, where these pink shades were formed by adding natural substances to traditional limewash. For example, adding in elderberries, which release a beautiful carmine red. Other methods included mixing pig/ox blood with buttermilk which was then painted onto a house. Blackthorn or sloe juice was sometimes added too, to produce a redder pink.
