What colour could counteract yellow artificial lighting?

I can’t think how to clearly word the question. And photos don’t show the problem.

We have an alcove off the kitchen that we use as a dining room. It’s dark with only a small amount of light from the kitchen window so we need lights on all the time when we use it. The lights never seem quite bright enough and are yellow toned
We tried switching to LED bulbs but they a were awful clinically blue toned lights. So we have gone back to ordinary lights bulbs. We have a central light fitting that takes 3 bulbs

We are just going to decorate the room. So have the chance to paint it any colour and wondered if we could make it lighter and brighter and tone down the artificial light.

There are no external walls to knock a window in

Anyone with any thoughts please?

On the colour wheel violet is opposite yellow. So violet tones will neutralise yellow tones. Though I'm a hairdresser not a decorator lol. But same principle I think?

Oh genius idea! @Hairgician thanks.

Funnily enough the colour I’m drawn to looking at the washable paint section is slightly lilac!

You can buy warm toned LED lights so you aren’t stuck with blue ones. Probably best to buy from a lighting specialist online.

You need to look at the number of the colour on the LED bulb. Generally 3000k is cool blue and 2700k is a much softer warmer colour

Have you tried daylight bulbs? They are not as blue and definitely not yellow.

I don’t know about the different in tone in the LED bulbs, thanks

Ive seen daylight bulbs in craft shops. We have a light fitting in the room so need 3 small bayonet bulbs.

Going to have a browse on the internet now. Smile

Wilko have a good range of light bulbs. Well worth a look.

What colour do you have at the moment that isn’t working? “Normal” light bulbs work better with the creamier colours (which is why magnolia was so ubiquitous). It’s not for nothing that the shift to LED has coincided with the fashion for grey and cooler colours.

We can have any colour as the room is being plastered.

We are having another try with the LED lights this week.

They still look blue but better with the bare walls than the cream wallpaper that was there before.
I just can’t seem to get the lighting effects I want vault in a room with no widows is going to be difficult.
