Anyone used 'Rocky Mountain mist' by Valspar? Looks purple instead of grey....

Just that really!

First coat fully fully dry

I'm wondering if they mixed us the wrong colour but feel very silly for considering that

Hi, I haven't used it myself but it can often be the case that warmer greys can have lilac or purple tones in certain light. People always say that the ever popular warm grey/ dark greige elephants breath by f and b cab have a lilac hue in some light. See how you feel about what you've painted at different times of the day, also accessories can really change the overall impression of a shade - eg pictures to break it up....

Was the tester you used first, the same?

RunMummyRun68 · 08/04/2018 07:39

Or did you not bother with a tester?

Did you use the light box in store?

This is apparently a picture of misty Rocky Mountains. It does look quite pinky/ purple.

It will get darker. I would never use Valspar again. I bought a very dark blue called admiral blue or something and it was peacock blue in the tin but it did get darker, but only after 4 bloody coats. It could have done with a 5th but I'd lost the will to live by then.

Which primer did you use?

PlayingForKittens · 08/04/2018 08:02

I have it in my kitchen, I don't find it purple. The chimney breast where the cooker is in the pic is warm shale then the rest is rocky mountain mist.

That pic a bit crap. This one shows it in the dining area of the same room which has a big window plus bifolds so loads of light.

That's lovely playingforkittens, actually looks quite similar to elephants breath but slightly more grey, ie less mauve/ lilac toned to me.

hamandpease · 08/04/2018 09:48

Wow thanks everyone

It matched the tester but the tester was used in a small area and looked a lot darker

I did not use a primer, I have never painted diddly squat before so am learning as I go using b&q staff snippets and googling...

It's down to the light in the room - we had the same thing with a different paint in our living room. It was supposed to be a pale milky coffee colour but looked lilac.

Bluesheep8 · 10/04/2018 09:19

Agree with wowfudge, it's the light and even when you've checked a tester in the room at all times of day, once all the walls are painted, they then reflect the colour/tone back at each other iyswim which must increase the depth of the undertone colour, eg lilac and make it more pronounced . Can you tell this has happened to me a few times? Confused

hamandpease · 10/04/2018 14:05

Thanks both, we have quite a yellowy light bulb in that room I think I'll try and brighter white one...

I got a voucher for free Valspar - but didn't use it after reading some shocking reviews. Google and you'll see what I mean (unless they've massively improved since!).

You probably need to do loads more coats.

SavoyCabbage · 10/04/2018 14:15

I think Valspar is great. We repainted our whole house two years ago all at once and the Valspar was the nest by far.

PlayingForKittens · 10/04/2018 14:30

Our house is all valspar too, I think it goes on great and the premium is fab with the kids, I've scrubbed bits loads no problem.
