Solo parent - Paint one wall at a time?

I'm a solo mum with a 8 month old and have lived in a new build for about 18 months, so all the walls are a plain/boring almond white.

I want to inject some colour, however I've recently done the baby's room which is the smallest room in the house (apart from downstairs loo) and it took 7 hours start to finish! My parents looked after the baby but this won't be possible for the much larger rooms which would take more than a day.

I just don't know how I'm ever going to get the rest of the house done?!

So I'm wondering if I can paint one wall at a time? Because I could spare maybe an hour whilst looking after DS during a day. Is it possible to do this if I wrap paint brush/roller in cling film?

Some rooms like hallway/stairs/landing I may just have to pay for a decorator 😫

Any other ideas?

That's pretty much what I do. An 8 month old baby could probably be happy for longer than an hour though?

Yes no problem to leave the brush or roller in water or wrap it, or clean it completely. You could consider feature walls and then you could just do one wall but they might be passé!

You can get sealable bags now that keep your roller/brush fresh too. Think we got it in b and q or Homebase. Good if you want to keep it airtight for longer.

@Temporaryanonymity I'm thinking worse case scenario. Plus I already feel like I leave him on his own a lot to do day to day stuff so would feel guilty leaving him on his own even longer to decorate. By on his own I mean playmat, jumperoo etc

Wrap everything in cling film and carry on the next day.

@woodpecker2 feature walls would def be easier haha but I was doing them 10 years ago in my flat so I'm a bit over it now

Just consider paint fumes and baby. Don't leave baby in the room especially overnight.

I do this anyway

Break it down into small chunks

Only live one set of furniture and it's easily moved back after a second coat - of the house is warm itll dry quick!

You can always buy more rollers - one clean one washed one drying

Less mess and less hassle all round

This is what I used to do, even before I had DD. As long as you use paint from the same batch, and you do the painting over a couple of weeks, it'll all dry the same colour and you won't be able to tell.

I once painted a massive attic room that was yellow with green woodwork all white. The yellow took three coats, the green took 4. I did it weekends and evenings, a few hours at a time, and it took me over a month! It was fine in the end though.

I have two DCs, one a baby and a single parent. Moved in a month ago and all walls were magnolia so I wanted to decorate. Was lucky to have parents watch DCs whilst I did their bedrooms but have been slowly doing the rest.

I do an hour or so in a day while DC1 is entertained and baby napping then do a couple of hours once they are in bed. It seems to take me 3/4 days per room but I am slowly getting there.

As above though don't paint with baby in the room and I wouldn't do bedrooms that need to be slept in that night.

Its tough but quite satisfying. Good luck!
