I don't like the colour I've painted the kitchen

I was trying to brighten it up and in my mind it was going to be a bit retro and funky. In reality it's just about ok in daylight but it looks like a 1970s institution at night.

It was cooking apple green before which was ok but maybe a bit dark.

The rest of the house is mainly classic colours.

I'm so indecisive I don't know where to start!

I don’t mind the colour but I don’t think it’s right for your cupboards or your work surface.

Lighten it up. Are paint effects back in yet?

Starryskiesinthesky · 30/03/2018 10:28

I think it looks alright! Do you maybe just need to get used to it or change your lighting? Could you break it up with some pictures? Or repaint it! Wink

Thinkingofausername1 · 30/03/2018 10:29

Maybe if it was on one wall it would be better?

Weebo · 30/03/2018 10:31

Woah. It sure is err, green isn't it? :o

Honestly? With those cabinets, apple green would have been much nicer.

ShiftyMcGifty · 30/03/2018 10:37

With cream cabinets and counters, I would do powdery light blue or very pale lilac.

Yes I definitely plan to repaint it. I did it before Christmas and I'm not getting used to it.

It feels a bit boring to go back to the same colour as before but then maybe boring is a good thing in this case Grin

Wow that is greeeen. It will make you smile when you go into the kitchen in the morning through - it's so bright!

parklives · 30/03/2018 10:42

Sorry kick it does look awful, you are making the right choice to repaint!

pestilentialboundary · 30/03/2018 10:43

The window frames and blinds are too dark for that colour to work, they are the bit that is 70's. Check the windows in Shifty's pictures, all have lighter windows.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 30/03/2018 10:43

Thanks shifty I love the blue one. The living room next door is a similar blue though. Not sure if it might look funny?

I'm rebelling against the tide of magnolia / beige / grey but without the confidence to fully commit Grin

I had something similar in my kitchen 20 years ago and it used to make people look like they were in the last stages of consumption - the green reflected onto their skin!

I loved it though Grin

ShiftyMcGifty · 30/03/2018 15:40

Can you put up a picture of the blue living room wall?

UnderCaffeinated · 31/03/2018 23:03

What about a pastel mint green colour? That would go better with the worktops and cabinets and look fresher.

MargotLovedTom1 · 01/04/2018 10:38

I think a pale sage would look more calming.

Starlighter · 01/04/2018 10:43

It’s very green! Shock

With the right kitchen it could possibly work but I think it would have to be very modern...

How about a soft yellow or aquamarine?

museumum · 01/04/2018 10:46

Have a look at dulux crushed aloe. That’s what I have.

IggyAce · 01/04/2018 10:50

A friend has similar but her kitchen is modern white shine units with black worktops.
Does Dulux still do willow tree? That would probably work better.

SofieMonde · 01/04/2018 10:54

Chartrew-se lol

LesLavandes · 01/04/2018 10:55

I think a green will suit but your green is very in your face bright. A less 'modern' and more natural shade would work, I think.

When trying samples, buy wallpaper and paint large pieces. Put up and leave for a while, move around room to different areas of light.

Good luck!

Oddcat · 01/04/2018 11:03

Foodylicious · 01/04/2018 11:07

How about a lilac/grey?
Dulux to a kitchen paint called frosted steel I Think?
We have it in our bathroom.
It's kind of a pale lavender

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 01/04/2018 11:07

@oddcat yours looks great! I think it's all on the accessories.

Anyway I've bought a tester of Little Greene Eau De Nil which looks much better so I'm going to paint it this week. I'll report back when it's done. Thanks all.
