Hi all,

Can I ask for your recommendations on carpet brands/types please?

We have bought a new build and are going to carpet it ourselves to (hopefully) save some £ from the builders prices but I have no idea where to start Confused.

Looking for something soft and bouncy but want the same carpet all through the house (except wet rooms) no idea where to start!

Thanks wise ladies in my phone 😘

We got our carpet from carpet right and we’re happy with it - can’t remember what it is though so that’s no help but I think the best way to get nice bouncy comfy carpet is to get really good thick underlay

Another one saying thick underlay. Our carpets were from SCS, same throughout the house pale neutral. Think it's called Hercules or something like that...stains and marks come out just with water as it's treated with something.

Thanks! Guess that's my Easter weekend sorted - carpet hunting Confused

We got ours from carpet right and also got the underlay that's thick and lasts for years. I can't be doing with hard floors apart from the cushioned vinyl in the kitchen/utility/downstairs loo. I like my squishy carpet underfoot.

Oh I should also mention, we have a new build and all the doors were too low for thick underlay and carpet. We had to have all the doors (fire doors) removed and planed down, so check yours and possibly budget for a carpenter if needs be!

Aw thanks, I never thought of that!
So carpetright seem to be pretty good then, I'll make that my first port of call 👍🏼

Did you need th have the skirtungs removed or anything for the vinyl? The house builder is saying the we will need a joiner and a plumber to remove the skirtings and the sanitary wear if we do the floors ourselves Hmm

I've tried laying vinyl myself, unscrewed the loos and slid the vinyl underneath. I felt confident enough to do it because my df taught me diy skills. I'd never let my dh anywhere near anything like this though. And no, skirting boards stayed put. Just make sure you have a really good blade.
