Interior Design Help - Husbands gaming area is stopping my designer dreams!

DH and I have just bought a new modern flat and I am setting about designing the interiors (in my mind) whilst we wait to complete! Until now we've been renting furnished so got to start from scratch and acquire / buy all our furnishings. I am going for a mix of Danish calm and mid century design - at least that's the lofty ambition! Smile

However, husband has his Playstation and is keen to have a set up for this in our new place. We don't want it in our bedroom as we want that to be a tranquil space, so we are going to have to find a way to incorporate his Playstation 'area' into our living room, as well as our normal TV. He wants to be able to play PS whenever he likes and not be restricted if, say, someone is watching TV so we need to find a way of incorporating two areas in the one room. (he plays with headphones so sound is not an issue). Obviously the ambitious (OCD) interior designer in me would rather not have to have the gaming area at all lol, but I am not begrudging him this as he works really hard and it's his little nerdy hobby - bless.

Does anyone have any nice ideas for 'sophisticated' / stylish ways to incorporate a gaming area / set-up without it making the whole room look like a teenage boy's bedroom? (He needs a TV screen, the playstation and chair).

Does anyone have any experience of this scenario? Thanks!

Well, it's going to be tricky, but I have some ideas!

The first one is to hide the second screen using a screen mirror or moving art, or having it be a pop up one. There are some ideas here:

Actually, the pop up one would be good, as you could hide the console in that too. There are lots of other places that do them, this was just the first one I googledSmile. Be warned though - they are not cheap!

Then there's just that chair to worry about. Does he have to have one of those awful black leather gaming chair contraptions? If you, you are sunk, I'm afraid! But hopefully he don't care too much, and you can just pick a nice accent chair for him.

Ooh, I never thought of that! Thanks Freezles. These look very high tech! Possibly a bit too expensive but I wonder if I can DIY a similar idea without it looking crap.

Luckily I think he'll be okay with a nice accent chair. I'm sure he dreams of one of those awful red pilot type gaming chairs, but that will have to stay in his dreams!

You could build sth inside a cupboard (especially handy if it's a period flat with alcoves. A bit like the picture but with a gaming station.

When he isn't playing, you could shut the cupboard doors and turn the chair around (but it would need to be a nice, upholstered accent chair). Or you could use a chair from your dining area.

A few years ago, Ikea did a series of small space videos. Perhaps this could inspire you?

If it's an actual gaming chair, there's no way you can make it blend into the background Sad
