What colours for a small cottage bedroom?

Any suggestions?

The room is small with a very low ceiling that curves into the wall at the eaves. So ideally one colour for ceiling and wall.

I’m thinking of a Wedgewood Blue. But maybe that’s cold?
Currently peach tones. Built in wardrobe is pine. Happy to paint that too.

I'm doing our cottage at the moment and have done farrow and ball pale powder in one, which looks very pretty. Dulux Jasmine white in another.
Have had dulux bleached lichen 3 in the other two for a few years and loved it, it's very cosy / vintage but think I'm ready for a change now.
Considering little greene custard or little greene Dorchester pink but a bit nervous of them.

Thanks. I picked up some colour cards today. Most of the colours I seem to like will be too dark for the room.

I used to have a bedroom which sounds very similar to that. It was east facing, which direction does yours face?

TBH I think Wedgwood blue would be too strong a shade. We painted ours a pale pink, with the built in pine wardrobe in the same shade (but white inside). It worked really, really well. Will try and find a similar shade for the idea

MrsLettuce · 17/03/2018 20:27

Had a quick look and the pink was possibly similar to Dulux Strawberry Bonbon or Delicious.

Our guest room in that house was south facing, that was a pale lilac similar to Dulux Point D'esprit or Purple Clouds. That worked really nicely too.

They might well have been paler than the Dulux shades, obviously it's impossible to select colour properly on a screen. We're talking the palest shades that are clearly not off-white IYSWIM.

I was told that the important thing is to try and go with a shade with no grey tones in rooms like these. The windows are often quite small, limiting light. That and the shape of the walls/ceiling create a lot of shadows (grey tones) even when the room is at it's brightest so grey tones in a colour can easily make the room feel gloomy and cold. That said, white is worst of all, better a nice warm grey than white!

Thanks @MrsLettuce. I didn’t know about the grey tones. I have a Dulux colour card. I’m going to take a look at the pale lilac shades.

Oh what a great thread, I’m wondering about colours for a cottage attic bedroom.

MreLettice how do you know if a colour has grey tones?

BringMeTea · 22/03/2018 16:24

I think Dulux soft fauna 6 would be lovely. It is almost identical to F and B Cabbage White if you want to see examples as soft fauna doesn’t feature much online.

We have a cottage with low ceilings. We have a little Greene blue (sky blue I think it's called???) In one bedroom and I find it very calming and restful. In our room we have a yellowy cream, little Greene first light in the attic which is bright and warm

I had a gorgeous cottage when is was younger. I painted the bedroom a soft but sunny lemony yellow. It was lovely in the mornings when the early sun came in. I had light oak furniture and cream fabric with green accents.

We can’t really justify changing the carpet and that is a dark dusky pink/purple.

I’m not naturally drawn to neutrals.
I’m wondering about Tea Gown by Crown? But that’s probably too dim. Or Dulux Jasmine Shimmer which is allegedly light reflective

If I ever get it sorted I will post pictures

Ooh following for ideas as I’ve not long moved into the smallest cottage ever Grin

InTheRoseGarden · 23/03/2018 19:26

I have literally just (today!) painted a room in Jasmine Shimmer. In a South facing room with a big window it is the palest of pale pinks. I'm not a fan of pink and I like it.

glitterbiscuits · 23/03/2018 21:06

@InTheRoseGarden - thanks. I have a tiny window and want to paint ceiling and wall the same colour. I’m also not a pink fan but it’s a tempting shade.

I have a cottage and one of the bedrooms has White ceilings and Dulux Mint Macaroon on the walls. And white furniture.

This is a lovely colour
https://www.crownpaints.co.uk/products/standard-emulsion/matt/cloud-burst/145
I have it on our hall, stairs and landing
Upper hallway has no natural light but although it's a great it has warm undertones
Woodwork is farrow and ball pointing
