Make a giant pinboard

I want to make a giant pinboard to cover most of one wall in our kitchen. And I would like to paint it to match the walls.

So what do I buy? I saw cork tiles in B&Q quite cheap but you don't seem to be able to buy a giant sheet of cork type stuff. Would it matter if it was lots of small cork tiles or would that look a bit messy do you think?

And can I use the same emulsion I use on the walls?

My dh thinks this is a ridiculous idea so I cant afford to get it wrong! All suggestions appreciated.

When I say giant I mean 1.5m x 2m. Is that ridiculous?

I’d use mdf, and then cover in nice material then criss cross thin straps actions

Check this link for cork board rolls

I just saw the size and price of the rolls.... maybe not an option! They do have large sheets though.

My friend had the cork tiles - unpainted though - and they looked fine. Once you have all your bits pinned on you don't really notice what's behind.

Does anyone know if one layer of cork tiles is enough, or will it take two?

Oh dear it's all sounding a bit more complicated than I thought. I thought you could just buy giant sheets of whatever you need, glue it on the wall and be done with it. But nothing is ever that easy.

They had a few of these hanging together in a square in IKEA? Would that give the effect you want?
