Would you rather sleep on a sofa bed or Aerobed?

I have one small spare room that’s currently taken up by a queen-sized bed. I want to reclaim the room as an office. Problem is, I still have overnight guests fairly often.

Is a sofa bed or one of those pricey airbeds a better solution? Which would you rather sleep on?? Any advice much appreciated.

This is the comfiest Aerobed due to the headboard (no pillows to slide off during the night) and the fact that it is kingsize. Would recommend this over a sofa bed personally, it is really very comfortable and has the added benefit of taking up next to no space when not in use. This doesn't come with the additional fleece underblanket so I recommend making up the bed with a blanket or fleece under the bottom sheet to avoid any potential coolness when you roll over. Spent many a comfy night on one of these at relatives houses and I am fussy about where I sleep!

Been watching this with interest as so torn between sofa bed or day bed/Ikea type for our playroom. I think it will get lots of use from DH when next baby arrives so tempted for day bed. Sofa beds seem like a mine field of whether they're actually comfy! Have a fold up memory foam z bed type thing on wheels and a single aerobed for when we have lots of guests or couples/children. But what do people think will be the comfiest and work best in a playroom?

Have you thought about a wall bed that folds down? We had one in our spare room from the wall bed kings and it was a great bed that disappeared into a cupboard and you could forget about when you weren’t using it!

Was it comfy londonmz? I did look at their website today and a single fold down bed from the wall is £600 so not dissimilar to an Ikea Hemnes...

A decent sprung sofa bed. We have one in the a shepherds hut that is very comfortable for two adults.

Aerobed really comfortable for one (with some insulation underneath you) - I slept on one for six weeks when between houses - but I found it rubbish for two people, you just rolled together.

I have a similar problem and aspire towards a Study bed. They were at the ideal home show a few years ago and folded up and down really smoothly, gave you a big desk area, could take a regular mattress, and just looked nicely made.

My DF has had a fancy aerobed in his one bed flat for about a decade, it's very comfortable and has lasted amazingly well. But a hemnes day bed would work best for elderly guests I would imagine, you can get it with an extra pull out bed underneath, a friend had one as a teen with shelves to one side and over it in a very small bedroom. It worked well and looked really nice, and frees up more floor space

I think aerobed for those in their 70s is not ideal, I’m afraid.

The advantage of a daybed over a sofa bed is that you have proper mattresses and it there are no “folds” in the mattress - usually sofa bed mattresses are so thin you can’t sleep well without some sort of mattress topper.

HuskyMcClusky · 16/02/2018 13:32

Okay, I think I’ve beem talked into the Hemnes day bed. Thanks so much for all opinions, much appreciated!

I'm too late but aerobed every time. One of the bed height ones. They're so comfortable unlike most sofa beds. And my 74 year old mum - whingey-est person on the planet - even sleeps on it without complaint.

Wetfeetwetsocks · 17/02/2018 07:49

There are some great Sofa beds in Ikea st the moment. Ones a corner that has storage too. It’s brilliant!

The ikea Lycksele sofa beds are not bad, get the best mattress option, and they don't take up that much space as a bed. We do have an aeribed double but I found it less comfortable.

MaisyPops · 17/02/2018 08:00

I'd have gone for tge aerobed. I sleep much better on my camping inflatable sleep mats than most other guest beds though

Passthecake30 · 17/02/2018 08:02

I think I'd have put the old folks in my bed and settled on what I'd be ok sleeping on.

Olga81 · 17/02/2018 08:02

In a smaller room something like the Flekke might be better, as it doesn't have high ends at both ends. Same concept as Hemnes

Butterymuffin · 17/02/2018 10:08

Surprised at so many recommendations for day beds. I've never found one that was genuinely comfy. Haven't tried the Hemnes though. I would look for a proper sofa bed.

Buxbaum · 17/02/2018 16:17

The high aerobeds are really comfortable- ours even came with a little valance so when made it looked like a real bed. HOWEVER, several friends and family members bought them after sleeping on ours and every single one, ours included, has developed a slow puncture after about a year of occasional use.
