How do I make my hallway more welcoming?

We moved here last summer and I still don’t get a happy welcoming feeling when I come home. I need some ideas about colours and what to do to make it nicer. I’ve tried Pinterest but the hallways are so big I couldn’t emulate anything on there.

Would wallpaper look nice in a narrowish hallway with no sunlight? What else can I do to make things more welcoming? I have nothing on the walls.

And you've got way more woodwork, so the blue wouldn't be so much at all in yours...

Ok o.p this is spooky-your hall is almost identical to mine! We have room for a tiny half moon table for a lamp, but if you don't, how about a floating shelf on the wall for a lamp? Also, fairy lights around mirrors and woven round banister look cosy. Will attach a pic, mine's a work in progress, due to have a rad cover and banister are to be replaced with trad ones. I LOVE the cladding on the side if your stairs though! I want that too! Also, a runner would look nice I think.

I bought a radiator cover online for about £30 then painted it cream myself and glossed it. I love it and it really does add a feature without taking much room. You can put ornaments, flowers, post holders or whatever on them

I'd also suggest a wicker white hanging heart for your door knob under the stairs as it's a simple way to add character without feeling cluttered (keeping it white stops it feeling cluttered in my opinion). I got one from Dunelm.

As you're heading there you could shop online...either to get ideas or do click and collect?

Also if suggest either a mirror or a simple canvas to add light (mirror) or colour (canvas)

And I bought this from dotcomgiftshop for about £5 which is good for adding a small feature and hanging little Nik naks on (only just moved so not set it all up this end!)

Excuse the reflection in the mirror...was that or a messy kitchen!

Also some small wall hangings might be an idea such as these...

Obviously not suggesting do it all but it might give you some ideas

You need something on the wall at the end of the hall. Be bold, it's only paint! You can change it in a day, easily.

Just start with that end wall, add a runner in the same colour scheme and put a radiator cover over the radiator. This gives you a shelf to put stuff on and put a mirror over it.

We are buying a radiator cover this weekend! We have a very similar hall to you but at the bottom of the stairs we have a doorway into a room and at the end of our hall is the doorway into the lounge.

Our radiator cover is off Amazon and comes ready painted, saves a job of painting the thing.

Yes,you definitely need a big oblong mirror above the radiator,,maybe with a chunky light pine frame or similar?

Also think about lighting. Think warm white LED . The wall directly facing the door at end of hallway , maybe wall paper it ,floral? bold? light?

bluesheep 😂 they are very similar, I can see your stairs start a bit further back, I have a very small area below the stairs so no space for a table. I could put a shelf in the corner I think 🤔. I also love your chandelier, it looks amazing!

I’m in love with that blue colour 😍, I’m definitely going for it. Im thinking then I’ll paint the rest of the hallway and the landing a deep cream.

Thanks for all the other lovely ideas, I’m taking note!

You definitely have room for at least a small corner shelf down at the end on the right. You could add some battery lights in a vase, I have several sets around and some have timers too. Usually order them online.

Do you have space for a shoe cabinet down the end? Something with wood, to act in place of proper furniture. And a great big mirror on top? All in front of a blue wall, if that's your thing?

Don't be afraid to experiment with color. If you're painting something simple like that wall, it shouldn't be too difficult. You could always repaint!

Another idea for either the wall above the radiator instead of one large mirror or up the stair wall (but not both) is a collection of smaller mirrors. I have done this in our dining room and it looks good

Hi o.p, the chandelier is acrylic (although you'd never know) and was £35 from Dunelm! I've got one at either end of the hall, one in the lounge and a smaller version on the landing-brilliant buys! Smile

Quick tip for Hague Blue... it does take about three coats to get good even coverage... as it's expensive, we did the first coat in a much cheaper paint in a similar colour...
