Spare bedroom - double bed or single with trundle?

We are doing up a small spare bedroom - currently an office but changing back to a bedroom. It will just take a double bed. But am wondering if a single with a trundle would be more sensible/flexible.

Slightly worried that a trundle would not be as comfortable for an adult to sleep in.

Any recommendations for a good quality trundle bed?

We had the Ikea day bed - vey comfy, but it is quite big when the trundle is out so you need to check sizing. You do also have to have somewhere to store the other single mattress when not in use.

I looked at the Ikea day bed and my sis has one and I've slept in it. Does the mattress not store in it?

I don't really need a day bed as such and I didn't like the look of it when it's up as a double - one person being 'trapped' in the side with the wood.

The one we had you couldn’t store mattress in it. It had 3 drawers underneath which could put things in, but they were all separate.

We have an Ikea daybed, when it's a single the mattresses are stored in it.

I thought about just getting a double but it's good to have the floor space to hang laundry actually.

Hi we have the Ikea hemmed day bed and have the mattresses one on top of the other with a throw tucked round them when it's not pulled out as a bed. No need to store one separately at all.i'm really pleased with it but it dies pull out to a king size rather than a double so do check space carefully.

Ikea hemnes!

Who are you imagining will stay over as guests and how often?
Will you have lots of couples as guests? Then I might be more inclined to buy a double.
Or if only occasional guests and some of them on their own a pull out bed would be enough.
It's generally the mattress that makes the difference to those Ikea beds anyway. We upgraded the mattress on my son's one to the most expensive and the difference in comfort is amazing.
The one he has only has a small wooden bit at the back so you wouldn't feel hemmed in but I know other styles are higher up and I'm not sure I would like that so much

Thanks all. Think I've decided against the Ikea daybed for sure.

For the amount the room will be used I think we will go with a single bed with a trundle. We have another spare room with a king size bed so that combination will give us the most flexibility I think. It will mainly be used by my niece and nephew and not regularly really.

Check the measurements of a trundle as ours when put together is a super king

If you put a topper on top of the bed when it is a king size then the gap between the mattresses disappears!

I have a Laura Ashley one. The mattress goes underneath. We have a straight sided valence on it to hide the trundle underneath.

King size would be too big for the room. It will take a double. I want to keep floor space though.

Decisions decisions!

How about this? www.heals.com/store-storabed-including-2-mattresses-solid-ash.html
