How to treat mold before painting.

I'm DIY decorating my teenagers room. He hasn't listened to a single word I've said in 3 years, so now as a result his room has mold issues. It's a tiny room, and he's a 15 year old 6ft 1 boy with 6,000 devices. Hence the mold. Anyway, it needs treating before I decorate. What is the best way to do this? Google shows me millions of products. I want to get rid of it and treat it before redecorating. I then have a dehumidifier to try and prevent it reoccurring.
Attached is a picture after I washed the wall with bleach. This is after I stripped the wallpaper.

Yeah that's what I would have done. What about getting one of those mid sleeper beds, let the air flow under it, although the junk will get stuffed under there I suppose. I haven't ventured into my sons room for a while, who knows what's in there.Confused
Is there a heater in there? I'm sure you've already mentioned about airing it!

*what about bare floor boards varnished/painted with small rug, again getting the air flowing.

Our bathroom was disgustingly mouldy as the window wouldn't open and the extractor fan is useless. I treated it with HG Mould Remover spray before re-painting it. It's incredible stuff, spray it on, go and have a cup of tea, go back and it's gone!

I used to have really bad mold due to condensation in my old place. After scrubbing and bleaching the walls I painted on a water & PVA glue solution before redecorating. That seemed to do the trick.
A dehumidifier will definitely help too.

He was in a high sleeper. He's going in a regular bed now as he's too big for the high sleeper. The one I'm getting has storage under. The heat at the top of the high sleeper was ridiculous even with the fan on 24/7. I'm tempted to remove the door and put a curtain up tbh!!
I'll try try the hg stuff. Did you paint a primer over before repainting or anything?

ooh, you are joking about the curtain aren't you.

No, I just used a mould resistant paint for bathrooms.

I noticed the blinds in my bedroom were black with mold.
I sprayed them with cillit bang black mood remover and it just melted the mood away. They came up as good as new. Since then I have used it on my bathroom windows and they remain mild clear.

Everbuild do a Mould Remover/Fungicidal Wash spray which is good. Spray it on, leave for 30 mins and clean off. The problem is it will come back unless the room's ventilated. Some paint's have a biocide in them that kills off mould growing on the surface of the paint. They're really just treating the symptoms though and not curing the problem. Get him to open the windows more often. It's a big problem in studenty let houses around here (Headingley) with 6 people having a shower and not leaving the window open because they've been told not to (friendly burglars).

Second the HG Spray. Similar issue in my DS' room. Is yours on the corner by the way? The wall where you have an issue is the outside wall in our 1930s semi so its (I believe) a combination of cold wall, inside heat, small room / inefficient ventilation etc.

Anyway sprayed with the HG spray about 3 years ago & it's never come back. Do open the window whenever I remember too.

Did it bleach the colour on the blinds?

Cantspell2 · 01/02/2018 13:20

No. The blinds are a pale cream colour still. It was realy easy to use. Just spray on and the I wiped them over with a damp cloth. No scrubbing and the mold just lifted away.
Quite cheap to buy at £3.50 in wilko and did what it was meant to.
