We're doing a major house refurb atm. The only room that the previous owners did was the tiny bathroom. We really don't like it, but can't afford to change it for a while, so hoping can make it look a bit better with some paint, lighting and accessories.

We will eventually have a shower room, so this will mainly be used for bathing our baby when it's here. We can't change the grey tiles but I'd be willing to go fairly wacky for the wall
colour - a bright green or yellow maybe? We were thinking a cabinet/mirror with light over the sink.

Any advice/suggestions welcome!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it's a bit of a first world problem. It's also a bit soul destroying as the previous owners put it all in new, but over a rotten joist, so we have to take it all out, fix the joist, then put it back in even though we don't like it, as we can't afford to buy new atm.

Anyway, loving all the accessories suggestions and the positivity - it's making me feel much better about it!

If you are taking it out to put it back in... can you move the bath the sink and the loo round? Bath up towards the door... loo across to behind the bath and sink where the loo is so you look in onto the sink and the loo is tucked behind the bath? (Might not actually be enough room to do that... )

@Slightlyperturbedowlagain i think I'd actually prefer that ha!

@ForgivenessIsDivine that layout would be much better but unfortunately we can't as the wall where the door is is curved, so the bath can't move any further towards it (if that makes any sense). One of the issues we have with it is that the bath is actually quite big, and a smaller one would have allowed more layout options. In future we'll prob get one of those slipper baths, or poss a Japanese tub.

I did wonder from the photo...

Plants!

Do a search on Pinterest for 'small bathroom ideas' there are lots of grey tiled bathrooms on there with little touches that might inspire you. Make sure you put 'small' though or you get enormous double sinked American ones Envy

I quite like it Grin I would just add duck egg/baby blue accessories and towels, but you could paint the wall that colour too!

Llyra · 27/01/2018 03:43

I’d warm it up with some wood accents, rustic, bamboo, whatever your aesthetic is. If you want to go a bit modern with splashes of a bright color I’d do it with accessories. Like maybe some bright towels, or candle holder, that sort of thing.

Don’t despair! I think it could work with so many different looks.

Awful? Come and see my cold mouldy hell hole!

AwkwardPaws27 · 29/01/2018 16:35

I'd go for a cork bathmat to introduce a softer texture - maybe some plants too?

picklemepopcorn · 29/01/2018 16:40

Pebbles look lovely with grey. Maybe pot a plant in a glass dish of pebbles. You could go driftwood, too. Driftwood framed mirror, rope, etc. That would soften the industrial feel.

WittgensteinsBunny · 29/01/2018 16:43

I think accessories, plants (hanging plant?), fluffy towels, maybe a vintage find (mirror) and lovely candles to soften it over the bright wall too. If you want to go with a colour, maybe a pastel (pale teal, soft grey, very soft coral if you want something more whacky) with lots of pale grey and white accessories? I love the suggestion of blush pink - would look really nice with the dark grey and is flattering on your skin tone too. Some of those bright colours would be way too too much in a bathroom. The lime reminds me of mid 90s Changing Rooms 😂

Lavender is nice with grey. It warms it up.

I’d go for very bright hot pink! Goes really well with grey.

Put some pot plants in

I think it's quite nice. I'd also embrace the grey tiles and paint the walls a contrasting grey, either slightly darker or lighter.with a really nice light in there and some great accessories it will look lovely.
