Black kitchen sink?

I was inspired by another post on here, and was researching coloured kitchen sinks.
As we are going for a black work surface I thought a black sink would look good. I had a cream Belfast sink once and hated it was it always looked dirty (it was very ‘vintage’). DH reckons that they look scruffy with wear and tear, but he is basing this on observations from decades ago - I wonder if modern sinks are more resilient.

Any advice? Thanks

(It will be a Mumsnet kitchen, with cabinets from. DIY kitchens on your recommendation - to be ordered by the end of the month...unless...)

Not if you have hard water - I used to have a dark green sink and it always looked awful with water stains.

We’ve a black sink. Very hard water area. Have had it 3 years, no problems at all.

I have a black sink with tiny sparkles in it. Absolutely no problem.

We have a franke black sink, not solid black but maybe not sparkly either. Hard water area but no problems. I have s dishwasher though so really just used for rinsing food. You can’t use bleach on them.

RustyBear · 15/01/2018 22:37

Maybe the problem with my sink was that it had a textured surface, perhaps a smoother one might be ok!

Outlookmainlyfair · 15/01/2018 22:43

Good point, Rustybear. I had not thought about texture.
Thanks!

We looked at the granite innova sink in the DIY kitchens showroom. It's lovely and the Black has little sparkles in it

Outlookmainlyfair · 17/01/2018 22:05

Thanks, that is really useful. I loves mumsnet!

Do you want it all black ? We need a new sink and was going to go for stainless steel, btu recently had to have a new hob which is black glass. the discovered a black glass and stainless sink.

Does anyone have experience of these ?

I’m having a black granite top as I had that in my old kitchen and it worked really well, so I thought a black sink would look good in that. DH was very disparaging until I read him the advice on here.

We’ve got a cream composite and I’m forever having to scrub the stains out.

We have a grey sink in the kitchen and a black sink in the utility. Both great.

Sleepyduvetday · 21/02/2018 18:44

Mil has a black sink, it looks great.

We've got a grey one with sparkly bits, no problems so far.

We have a black glass and stainless steel sink. I love it, it does need wiping over and drying with a cloth most days to keep it looking nice but it's looking good still and it doesn't take long to clean (and we're in a very hard water area). We have grey units, white speckly quartz and black appliances and it goes really well. Ours was quite expensive, it's the one that Wickes sell though I managed to get it elsewhere much cheaper. I love the pop up waste on that one, also the cheaper ones had 2 holes so you could have it either hand which I didn't like.

We have a black composite under mount sink with dark granite worktops, hard water area. Best thing ever. It never looks grubby and is super easy to keep clean. Have gotten a set of two for my new house as I like it so much.
