Child's bedroom north-east facing

I wonder if someone can help me decide on colours for my DC's bedroom walls.

The bedroom used to be the master bedroom and was painted an ochrey yellow. Didn't like the colour much, but it didn't make the room too dark.

When DC took over the room, I painted one wall and the ceiling bright white and the other three walls a sort of lightened shade of cornflower blue.

Now I am a colour fanatic and couldn't imagine having a room with no colour, but this blue shade has been a big mistake. The room feels very dingy and not very inviting for playing in. I am about to get some more furniture for the room, so thought this is the time to change the colour scheme.

I have looked on the web and it seems blue was the worst thing I could have done due to north east light being grey and cold. I think the white ceiling and one white wall were also wrong for the same reason.

Now I am wondering about painting the ceiling and three walls a very vanilla-ish cream colour - to give some warmth (????) and to do one part wall (from sloping ceiling to chimney breast) in a sort of bright orangey red.

How does this sound to anyone with more clue than me? I really don't want to get it wrong again. Thanks Smile

Have you considered using Dulux light + space? My sons room faces north/ne (small box room) and used nordic spa which I thought would be too green but looks more apple white. It reflects light and makes the room look bigger. You could also try the dulux app before buying to get some ideas.

My sons room faces NE. It’s vanilla white and navy with a grey carpet and white furniture. Good lighting makes it work and it’s a nice calm space.

Thank you for your messages. That really helps actually. I have just looked at that Dulux light and space paint, which sounds ideal but I am abroad and can't get dulux here. I wonder if I can find something similar.

The vanilla and navy sounds gorgeous firenight and that's a good point about the lighting because the existing lighting is not big enough for the size of room.
