Curtain pole for very heavy curtains

Hi, can anyone please recommend a curtain pole for very heavy curtains?

It's not so much the pole, but the wall fittings that are going to make the difference (i.e. proper masonry plugs/dry wall plugs depending on wall you're mounting it on, and not just one on each end, but at least one in the middle, too). I would also be buying a solid pole rather than one that joins in the middle, and metal or wood.

How heavy are we talking?

It's more the wall fixings to be concerned about than the pole. Most wood/metal poles will hold a lot as the weight is distributed evenly along the whole length.

Is the wall good and solid? And how wide if your window, are they heavy because it's a huge window or heavy because it's double lined heavy embroidered fabric with a header that uses lots of widths.

If they are very very heavy you might have to consider more brackets so 4 or 5 instead of the standard 3. In which case you'll need rings that can pass over brackets. Or more that 2 curtains.

I dont know exact weight but they were made from Laura Ashley upholstery fabric 90×90 and lined.

There is a wooden baton (if this is the right name for it) fixed to the wall for hanging curtain poles wall and baton are both solid. Extra brackets are a good idea and I could just not close them as I have good blinds up.

I've had a look for one single pole but struggled to find any as I thought this would be the better option.

The wooden battens are used for fixing curtain tracks to rather than poles.
If possible and you don’t have eyelet curtains I would go for tracks as well. Better for distributing the weight and you don’t get a large gap at the top letting in drafts.

They're eyelets. Could kick myself as I had them altered to put eyelets in them!

I've just bought a 28mm pole from B+Q and bought it as seperates as I wanted a single pole and not an extending one. I got 120cm but they also did bigger sizes and achoice of fittings and finials.

I would make sure you have a centre bracket as well. If you have a batten that is very secure I would use this but as a poster said it does mean you curtain will be further away from the wall...This may not matter as much with eyelets as they fold and need a tad mor space than gathered curtains

Ive got excellent poles from www.curtain poles.co.uk (which I came across recommended on here). I used bigger Rawl plugs/acres.than they supplied, but the poles are incredibly solid.

Thanks for tips @oldraver I was thinking about doubling the brackets up so essentially have 6 brackets up, two at each side and two in the middle. Not worried about them closing fully as my room would be too warm with them fully closed.

A lot of the ones I was looking at in B+Q (other retailers may do the same) have a weight limit on the bumf...
