Grey window frames or white?

We’re going to be extensively renovating our new home when we move in in the spring.

We want to add bifold doors to the lounge. I love the look of the grey frames but the rest of the windows are white upvc and do t appear to need changing.

Would having the doors in grey look odd if everywhere else is white? Will the grey date and look/be undesirable in 5 years?

I’m really stuck and would love some input which isn’t a shrug and a grunt from DH!

My view is if you get grey doors you'll have to chance the rest do the windows too as it will look odd. If you're not willing to change the windows I would go for white doors to match.
I think the grey frames are love or hate to be honest. I'm not a fan but my friend loves them as likes the industrial feel they give.

I'm not sure about their longevity, it's like anything really. Things go in and out for fashion.

I'd go for grey. Doubtless it is drifting out of high fashion, but it's a neutral so you can easily update around them and they'll still look great.
Over the last year I have got so fed up of my white doors and sills and slowly gone round the house repainting them (pale grey, as it happens). They look fab, and go with everything else.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 13/12/2017 19:16

Do all in grey if you want to change, there's a house near me that has replaced all their white windows with grey but kept the garage and side door white - looks horrendous.

hmm if the bifold doors will be at the back of the house and unseen by most then not matching with the rest of the windows won't make much of a difference in my opinion

It looks so odd when they don't match and will stand out like a sore thumb. My mum used to paint our window sills and door stay grey years ago (it was the time when everybody did theirs red) she must have been ahead of her time. I used to hate it when I was a kid and want them red! Maybe it's why I don't like the grey look now!

White, grey is starting to look very passe.

PasstheStarmix · 13/12/2017 19:21

White is timeless also

I really hate white UPVC, it looks terrible. That said, unless you are changing the window frames too you should go white, the grey will only make the white worse.

We're doing a rear extension and planning on grey doors and windows in the extension whilst keeping the rest white. I quite like that there'll be a contrast between the old house and the extension. We're very much in the mindset that we are going to do what we want as we will be living here years

Grey is very much the flavour of the moment and will look as lovely as brown windows in a few years.

I'd also think long and heard about bifolds. The look amazing open but when they're shut, the frame takes up a lot of space, blocks the light and chops up the view. In the UK, the weather isn't often good enough to keep them open. Sliding doors look much nicer shut.

We went to a renovation show and looked at the different types of doors. I much preferred bifolds over the sliding doors. To me the sliding doors were just big, renamed patio doors & I wasn't a fan.

4 years- I agree. They're just like patio doors!! Also for us, the whole point was being able to fully open up the space whereas sliding doors only open partially. The track (if you have 2/3/4 panels) takes up far more space than bifolds and looks awful (imo). The profiles of bifolds are much slimmer than they used to be - not vastly different from sliding doors.

You can get 2 colour window frames (not sure about bifolds but worth checking). We have some windows that are white on the inside (to match other decor in bedrooms etc) but grey on the outside to match bifolds.
