Help me understand this little old chair

It’s been handed down to me and it’s in need of love and work (especially as DD has been standing on it to reach a high shelf and has damaged the seat). Just curious - what would you call a chair like this in actual furniture terminology? Is it a slipper chair, a bedroom chair, or ...? What about date - Edwardian, maybe? It’s quite small and low.

Just curious, and hoping there will be antique chair experts lurking.

I think it's called a nursing chair. I have a couple in a similar size but slightly different design. I inherited mine from my dad's aunt.

Looks like an early 20th century nursing chair. They have short legs to make it easier to support a baby on your lap.

Now that is a thing of beauty.
You can keep yer Parker Knolls and yer IKEA.

The musical instruments on the inlay make me think it may be a cellist's chair.

Oh wow, replies. Thank you. I wondered about it being for nursing as it’s got no arms - was thinking that could be so there’s room for a nursing baby to stick out sideways? - but I thought the lowness didn’t make sense; but now when you say that about lap support, it seems more logical.

I like the cellist idea too, though ...
