House wall colours suggestions wanted

Hi all.
I don't know where to start. My dearly mum needs a new paint job all over the house, high roof and larger than average 1930s semi style. So far, decorators skimmed and stripped most things and got rid of all 80s wallpaper, but she's now asked me to decide on paints. Problem is, there is a lot of woodwork on walls too, and she's insisting on retaining her red carpeting and light around the house is ok but not too bright. Also, as she's getting older, we have to bear in mind we may sell in a few years so must keep in with tradition but also she likes light colours. Any ideas? Paint the wall woodwork the same as walls or slightly different? So far I was gearing towards farrow and ball. I tried ammonite but too bluey grey. Did like Sail White by crown as a tester but that causes an issue as they won't do that Eggshell colour for woodwork and can't do the skirting and wood and doors in emulsion, so any similar or even better combination I would be grateful. P.s wish to keep ceiling as is. Thanks.

I'd just do a cream colour throughout. Looks good with all furniture and won't upset any future buyers.

Any suggestions for a nice simple cream then, available in both emulsion AND Eggshell, (while avoiding a dirty white type cream which I know from experience can happen with some brands/creams).

Well I'm a Dulux girl...ivory lace is a nice cream colour, looks bright and clean.

I think you'd have to go for an off white colour. Maybe something that could be described as a very pale grey. Nothing else would go with this every colourful carpets. Best to stay nuetral if you are selling anyway. Just for the love of god NO MAGNOLIA!

Thanks all. Will check out Ivory Lace. Also found Dulux chiffon white so will check that too. Finally if I go dulux, they can also mix me for the Eggshell, so I don't know whether to go slight contrast, either a shade lighter or shade darker (or same shade but in Eggshell) for the wall wood beams, skirting, the wall plaster, the door, etc. What may look nicer in all your opinions?

I'd stick with the same shade. If you are leaving the ceiling beams as is, with that very strong colour carpet, you don't really need another visual distraction imo.

Google Dulux. They do an eggshell for woodwork in the same full range of wall emulsion. You'll need to go to Tradepaints probably.

Dulux timeless, comes in emulsion and satin wood.

Dulux Dusted Moss 3
It's a light grey, very neutral or my other favourite- Egyptian cotton

White woodwork looks cleaner I think rather than the same colour as the walls.Satin not eggshell.I love eggshell but have recently learnt from experience that it does not hold up on skirting boards-ours are badly marked 1 year on.I like Eygyptian Cotton too.

We put Dulux Bleached Linen on our sitting room wall. It will also work well with the red carpet and cream furniture and white woodwork. If she likes bright colours go for new cushions, pictures etc. It's bright during the day but has a lovely warmth as well.

We've got crown sandcastle in lots of our house, including paired with roasted red in the living room which goes well. It's nice and neutral and lightens up our dark hallway/stairs too.

Misty9 · 01/10/2017 09:53

Should have said, it's a 1930s semi.

Keep the woodwork a brighter white whatever you do, it would be such a shame to waste it!!

I think you need a warm creamy white because of the red carpets. I've just been painting loads of Farrow and Ball white samples on a wall. F&B Wimborne White is neutral and very clean but creamy (sort of full fat milk) - I'd defo try that. F&B White Tie more of a yellowy creamy colour.

Or you could go for a darker and warmer more taupey neutral that would go well with the red? Joa's white or Stoney Ground for example.

I'd do woodwork in a cleaner white than the walls.
