Accent wall for DD?

DD (14) wants to paint an accent wall in her bedroom and has asked me to post for any advice.

It's quite a small room at the back of the house with a window to the east facing back garden which really doesn't let in much light.

The easiest way to explain room is probably this (very badly drawn) diagram:

(D = door, B = bed, S = Bookshelf/cupboard thingy, W = window, De = desk)

Where would you think would be best to have the coloured wall?

She wants a cosy feel and isn't that keen on pastels. Furniture etc is all different colours

She likes blues, greens, turquoises, teals etc, and also dark red-y purples.

Do you think a darker colour would make the room feel too small? What sort of colour would you recommend?

Thank you!

Ignore this line! Changed my diagram

She is a girl after my own heart ;) My bedroom is turquoise and our guest bedroom is purple and orange. Paint the whole room/use some wallpaper and have fun. Or even paint the ceiling or woodwork. Be brave- It will look better than just one wall and you haven't got a wall to accent anyway.

I also don't think this whole thing about dark walls is true although high contrast tends make things appear smaller (i.e. Very dark walls and white furniture).

Ooh, they do look lovely! We especially like the last one.

We thought just one wall because she doesn't want anything too drastic, but maybe you're right.

Would 2 different bright colours be too much?

Would love to hear more opinions

Have a look on Pinterest - my dd has about 200 "ideal" bedrooms on there in anticipation of me moving into her boxroom at the end of yr6!

Can remove the back of the bookcase so that you can see the wall behind? If so that would look good as the accent walk

It depends how much of the wall you can see. My children's bedrooms are bright, like really bright because it is their own space and that was what they wanted. I would post pics but they are too identifying.

It isn't difficult to paint a wall in a day. Just make sure you sugar soap it first to remove any grease/dirt that might be invisible to the naked eye but will show through paint.

I would do the bed wall. Try to include elements of the same colour in the room. Look at a colour wheel for ideas on how to contrast it for more pop.

I wholeheartedly agree with the Pinterest suggestion. If you do sign up make sure that any emails from them go into their own folder because they do send an email a day at least.

We've just painted dds room and it's gorgeous. A deep peacock colour on the fireplace wall and a pale green on the rest. I can get the actual paint colour if helpful? I posed on here a while ago with pics of it if you search Smile
