Interior designer cost

Has anyone used an interior designer and can give me an idea of cost? Presume it's done on a day rate basis. Not looking for someone to 'project manage'.

Yes, she stuck to my budget, although I was quite vague Grin

Athina Bluff was the lady. Mention Mumsnet if you get in touch. Smile

We just had our house interior designed by Banbury + Co www.banburyandco.com and can't recommend them enough. They provided a per room basis service at £595 however, this cost was somewhat offset by the trade discounts they passed on. Very pleased with the outcome and Kitty the designer is a joy!

Ah, the interior designer myth that we're all massively expensive! We're really not!! It looks like you want ideas, a plan and a shopping list, right? Depending on the room/size, I'd say £200-£300 (a kitchen, for example, is more involved even at ideas stage). Drop me a DM if you want to chat more...😊

Just to make you aware, some of the websites who offer to design your room for £100 have trade deals with the suppliers they recommend which is where they make their money. Also the 'designers' they use would only get about £50 max of that fee so how experienced are they? Pick a good independent and discuss a fixed fee. Any designer who recommends expensive accessories probably isn't the right one for you, so talk to a few before you decide...

Ive just used the John Lewis design service for my lounge. It cost £250 which is refunded if you spent over £1,500.

I had a visit from a consultant who spent nearly two hours with me looking at the room, taking measurements, discussing how the room was used, what furniture I wanted to keep, what my budget was and what styles and colours I preferred.

A couple of weeks later I had a few emails with various sofas and furniture styles to consider and to further drill down into what I wanted. I then visited the store where the consultant had gathered together cushions, lamps, carpets, paint, fabrics, etc and we then went onto the shop floor to look at upholstery and furniture. There was no hard sell and we spent hours wandering around sitting on sofas and just mulling things over. In the end we bought some items from John Lewis, some from a local independent shop and some from Next. We colour matched the expensive paint suggested.

I think we had good value as the consultant was happy to have lots of email exchanges with over lots of small details and I am delighted with the end result.
