I know it's a first world problem, but may I have your opinions.....?

I feel embarrassed to be asking this, as I know there are bigger, more important issues in the world, but....

My husband and I extended and renovated our kitchen last year. The kitchen is knocked through to the lounge (partially), and there are two sets of bifold doors, one in each room. These are the PVC version (rather than aluminium) and are anthracite grey, as is the kitchen window.

Part of the roof of each room has also been raised up at an angle, the kitchen having 4 velux windows, and the lounge having 2. These are currently wooden - light coloured pine. There are various oak elements in the rest of the kitchen - beam over the cooker, table and chairs, door to room, part of sland, and a shelving unit.

So, one of us thinks that the velux window frames should be painted in anthracite grey, to match the bifold doors and windows, and the other of us thinks that the velux window frames should be stained with an oak varnish, to match the rest of the wood.

What do you think? Thanks in advance.

I would leave them as they are but if I had to do something I would paint them white to blend in with the ceiling.

MrBennOfFestiveRoad · 16/09/2017 21:43

I really like your kitchen OP - the colours/materials combinations are a bit different and not like every other clone-type kitchen that you see. I would paint the veluxes white if you are going to do anything, although they still look good as they are.

Smidge001 · 16/09/2017 21:44

I'd also leave as-is or paint white. You really don't want to draw attention to them by having them dark grey. Perhaps your husband would accept the white more readily than the oak as it would blend them into the ceiling and avoid anyone noticing the frames at all - they wouldn't need to 'match' the bifolds as such, as they're just glazed gaps in the roof iyswim!

I also agree with a pp that the grey will date so you'd be avoiding future updates!

Paint them white to make them disappear. Definitely not grey.

V nice kitchen!

drinkswineoutofamug · 16/09/2017 22:15

Beautiful kitchen.
I would personally leave them as they are.

littlecabbage · 16/09/2017 23:05

Thanks again all. It does seem wood/white is the preferred option Smile

Or colour match them to the kitchen ceiling?

MissDuke · 28/09/2017 22:30

This is the most beautiful room I have seen in ages! Trust your own taste and go with what you prefer, it hasn't let you down so far!

BougieQueen · 29/09/2017 15:47

I don't have a preference either way but beautiful kitchen!

OhTheRoses · 29/09/2017 15:55

White.

FridayFreddo · 29/09/2017 16:00

Either oak to match the wood, or white to blend in with the ceiling. Dark grey would draw too much attention to them. You want the ceiling to be light and airy, not a set of grey boxes.

Beautiful kitchen!!! Have a Glitterball

kittenears · 30/09/2017 09:07

I'd paint them white so they blend into the ceiling and disappear. The windows are there to supply light, and give a view up to the skies - any colour detracts from that. Painting them anything dark will just accentuate the shape - you've a lot of colour and shape going on in the room already, I wouldn't add to it....

dazzlingdeborahrose · 07/10/2017 16:08

Another vote for white. They'd blend into the ceiling. Or leave them as they are. Under no circumstances should you paint them dark grey.

MargotLovedTom1 · 07/10/2017 16:21

Smitff I think your post is a little rude. OP didn't ask for opinions re her choice of pendant lights, worktops and doors.
Also the people saying 'don't go with grey: charcoal grey will date' - you do realise that the OP has whopping great bifold doors and window frame in charcoal grey?

I agree with other posters - I'd go with white. It's a lovely kitchen.

Riddo · 07/10/2017 16:29

Definitely white. Lovely kitchen OP.

Cyclewidow46 · 07/10/2017 17:55

Another vote to paint them white - definitely not the grey!
Beautiful kitchen!
