Making house a bit more homely

Not sure if I can articulate what I mean! Would like to add a few finishing touches to the house, but don't like a lot of clutter. I have a few plants, pictures, photos, candles, lamps. Not keen on ornaments. Occasionally buy flowers.
What are your favourite finishing touches?

Hi OP, I'm very minimalist and I don't like clutter. This is just an example of something in my home -

My side unit. I quite like it Grin

The rug on the floor definitely give a more homely feel I was originally against getting one

I think green house plants lift a room,to me a house doesn't seem right without them.

Rugs and lamps?

A throw on the sofa?

Cushions?

That is lovely BluebutTrue. We have a coffee table in carpeted lounge, no room for a rug. Love your black stags, I have something similar but that's the extent if my 'ornaments'!

I don't like ornaments. The detritus of life makes our house homey.

Drawings on the fridge, invites on the mantelpiece, random walking sticks in the hall from wanders in the woods.

I don't think a naice scatter cushion has the same effect and it's much cheaper!

I read somewhere that every room should have a "touche de rouge" - basically one thing that is red in each room, not necessarily as a focus, but just there.

Soft and tactile things make all the difference. A rung, a throw or cushions on the sofa, natural wood finishings, nice textured blinds (e.g. Linen or wool) as opposed to pvc.
