Varnishing/protecting an untreated wood table

Bought these beautiful bedside tables a couple of weeks ago, not reading properly that they are unfinished wood. My DH has already stained his with water after being in the house for only a week.

I think we need to varnish them, but both of us are just the most incompetant when it comes to anything practical.

Is this something we can get a professional to do? If so, what kind of pro? Or is there an idiot proof product we can use to protect them? And will the water stains come out? Any help appreciated.

Gosh they are beauts!

I don't have any proper advice but I'd say have a look at YouTube they always have videos that make me feel more confident about doing things myself.

Very fine sand and oil and you should get the water mark out.

I'd def say oil rather than varnish so you keep the look of them but you would need to do it from time to time rather than a one off

Beeswax? Nicer than oil I think.

If you are going to put drinks on them I would go with a hard wax oil such as Osmo which can be used on anything from worktops to floors. We had worktops treated with Danish oil and it wasn't great. I sanded everything back, cleaned it with meths and treated with Osmo. It's brilliant. Just takes two coats with 12 hours in between.

Could you get reinforced glass and put them on top.

Danish oil, which is an oil mixed with a varnish. It will change the colour slightly and give them a sheen. After use be sure to lay the cloth you applied it with out flat to dry
