On my new wood floor, which needs protection. Is there an alternative? Do you rate yours? Should I get a big one? Thanks!

I've been looking at a turtle mat for my new wood floor and was wondering if they are worth the money so I'll be watching this thread with interest!

I've been using them for years and they're excellent. Have had a yellow one by the kitchen door for nearly three years, so you can imagine how awful it looks sometimes (rain, mud, etc) - but then it goes in the washing machine and looks like new again. It's really effective at trapping dirt too.

There was another company I used in my last house which did custom sizes, as I needed a huge one for the hallway, and it was also brilliant. If I can remember the name of the company I'll come back and link to it

Hugrugs are great, lovely range of designs and colours. Wash beautifully, I highly recommend them.

I have one, door mat sized inside the front door. It's excellent and a nice design. I would recommend. They wash up well and trap the dirt better than other mats.

Dunelm do miracle mats which are just as good and significantly cheaper

ShatnersBassoon · 02/09/2017 08:48

I was going to suggest you look at the Dunelm ones. They're essentially the same thing, but the designs aren't as interesting (which doesn't matter to me, for something I wipe mud on).

I have 3 but none on carpet. Get the biggest you can in the space. I've had them for years and they look brand new. I just stick them in the washing machine when they're filthy.

Fourmagpies · 02/09/2017 09:10

I have a Hugrug too. It's fab, chuck it in the wash, dry on the radiator and it's like new. I haven't seen turtle mats so not sure how they compare.

NotMeNoNo · 02/09/2017 09:19

They are very good. If you sign up for emails they have occasional sample sales.
I suspect anyone who has one would say it's great as they cost so much you have to convince yourself it was worth it!

I'm sure the alternatives are good too. Basically absorbent mat is the way to go

I found one 50% off in John Lewis!

My hugrugs are about 5yo and gong strong

Goosegettingfat · 04/09/2017 02:03

Thanks all! I've ordered one from dunelm (yes lots cheaper!) and one from j l to compare!

Well the range in styles/ colours for all of them is rather yuck I feel, but the dunelm one looks nicer on the floor than the turtle mat one! And they certainly feel like they'll do the same job.

We've got the dunelm ones st the front door and hug rug at the back. They do the same thing. Both wash really well but the dunelm one was loads cheaper

Yes.
