Help...adding colour to a white and mint kitchen

Hi all, I'm looking for some inspiration. We've recently bought a house that basically needed gutting and the basics fitted before we could move in (kitchen, bathroom, carpets). The whole house has also been white washed until we can decide what to do in each room.

Anyway, I've decided what to do in some of the rooms (living room, dd's bedroom, nursery) and they're well on their way to looking lovely but now I feel like my brain is utterly scrambled (not being helped by the fact that I'm heavily pregnant and can't think straight most of the time due to lack of sleep) and I'm struggling to decide what to do in the kitchen to give it some wow factor. The kitchen is currently white units and white tiles with an oak work top and pale oak floor. It looks gorgeous but obviously very white. Originally we decided to paint the walls a lightish sage green, however, when I went to look at the house yesterday the decorator (due to a miscommunication on dh's part) had painted it a pale mint colour. It's not what I wanted at all however it does look very nice and bright and fresh. My dh loves the mint and wants to keep it however has said that if I want to change it to sage green then that's fine. So on the one hand I'm a bit irritated that my plans for the sage green kitchen have been scuppered but on the other hand I do think the mint looks lovely, although I'm worried it will cold in the winter. I've got until tomorrow to decide whether to keep the mint or not.

So this is where I need help! Can anyone give me any ideas for a colour scheme to add interest to the mint kitchen. I'm not sure what other colour (if anything) I should add to make it look amazing. If i can come up with something that's going to look lovely then I'll keep the mint, if not I'm going to go back to the sage kitchen as I've got loads of ideas for that. Thank you Smile

If you want to keep it simple, add some deep teal accessories.

To warm it up how about some dark pink accessories? Pics attached. I think the dark wood floor looks great against the mint - can you do something similar with your floor?

Our kitchen is white units and green walls (duck egg rather than mint but still similar). Strong pink goes well with it.

Can we see a picture? That would help greatly

QuiteLikely5 · 31/08/2017 20:07

Nooo not dark pink

BoggledMind · 31/08/2017 20:11

Ooh I like these suggestions. Thank you. Pink would add that hint of warmth to the kitchen that it needs, although I think dh would be keener on the teal option. Will look into both colours.

Or a turquoise blue maybe?

I haven't got a photo at the moment. Will see if I can fine something similar online.

I think that mint, white and oak is intersting enough without adding another colour . If it's too light I'd just add acccesories in different shades of green

Well I did wonder that Kr1stina. I want plants in the kitchen which would naturally add a pop of colour without looking too matchy matchy.

YY, plants are lovely in a kitchen.

Well actually plants are lovely everywhere Smile

Kr1stina · 31/08/2017 20:31

Maybe it's too light and smooth and you need some contrast in tone and texture rather than colour, if that makes sense.

BoggledMind · 31/08/2017 20:38

Yes I think that is it exactly Kr1stina. It needs something to give it a lift but I couldn't quite put my finger on what. I definitely think plants are the way forward. I don't want the kitchen to look contrived with perfectly matching accessories all over the place. I want it to feel inviting and lived in and plants will give that feeling. Thank you!!!

Plants will be cheap and if they don't look right you cause them elsewhere in the house.

Also what about wood ( to pick up on the oak, of you like a more traditional style ) or black and white photos in black frames ( if you like a more contemporary look ) and black and white pots for your plants ?
