Tips for renovating a Victorian house?

Any good blogs etc? Realistically it's going to be done slowly and on a budget, and probably mostly by me! If I google the stuff I can find online is pretty high end/expensive!

youtube has loads of tutorials
ask neighbours for handy-person recommendation for the jobs that are too difficult for you.

and - no wall is even, no room square, no corner a right angle.
you will need all expletives you know Wink

Haynes ( the car manual people) do a house manual called the Victorian and Edwardian House. It is really helpful.
When we renovated ours (2) DH began his collection of Victorian Building books. It helps to know what's going on behind the plaster and how authentically you want to repair things.

Do not remove any wallpaper unless you intend to replaster!

I don't agree with the removing wallpaper comment. Lots of people said the same to us but we went ahead and the plaster is just fine. We did a fair bit of filling and sanding and are just finishing painting and the walls look great. We were hardly going to keep the woodchip wallpaper anyway!

Will look out for the Haynes book- thanks.
It was renovated/extended in the 90s I think, and has lost a fair amount of original features but I'd like to give it some character again. It feels dated rather than falling apart. No woodchip thank goodness!
Dying to see what's underneath the carpets! The attached house is identical, except it has never been extended like this one, so will be very interested to see if they would show us round theirs to see how ours would have been before it got messed around too much!
