KITCHEN TILE DILEMMA

Humphrey2004 · 22/08/2017 13:05

Hoping for some inspiration.
I have a new kitchen going in, white with pale grey work top and laminate flooring. I plan to paint the walls a grey colour to compliment the work top which is blue rather they browny grey. I need to order tiles. Am rather taken with these white tiles but wonder if anyone else has any experience of using them as a splashback and behind a kitchen hob. Do you think they would be a bugger to clean behind the hob? do you think the grouting would get all yucky even if it was dark.. Please help I need to order today!

Ooh I love both. Herringbone slightly wins for me Smile tiling (as opposed to a smooth splashback) is bound to occasionally get yucky in the grout I would've thought - just a case of keeping on top of the cleaning.

I hate tiles as a splash back on kitchens. This is after many years experience of different size tiles and colours of grout.

I really like the glass sheets they now do so you could have the herringbone tiles on most areas but behind the hob a contrast (or matching) glass sheet.

I have the hexagonal ones in our bathroom. Looks really effective, really lovely and not difficult to clean....but absolute pain to tile. Dh had to be meticulous for it to look good.

The herringbone ones looks fab!

thank you for you replies. I had toyed with the idea of the glass splashback and then tiles elsewhere but I thought it might look a bit fussy. I also thought they looked like a nightmare to tile!

We have a tile splashback and it's been sealed somehow so is actually ok to clean.

They are lovely. I slightly prefer the herringbone, but even the website picture has a tile that isn't aligned properly, which would drive me nuts. You will need a totally meticulous tiler!

hi thanks for your reply. I am edging towards the herringbone more. I had noticed the unaligned hexagon tile. my eye is drawn to it and i convinced myself that it wouldn't look like that in reality but of course it would especially if using dark grout. Can I ask what type of sealant you used? x

would a matching laminate splashback work? we've done that in granite - no tiles and it looks fab and very easy to maintain..

I don't know what it's sealed with unfortunately, as it was done by the previous owners. I have seen Dry-Treat highly recommended on here though.
