New Bathroom Budget?

Chick7654 · 21/08/2017 22:41

Hi, I need to redecorate my bathroom. It's 10ft by 8ft.

Work required, remove old suite, plaster walls, put in new suite and shower cubicle in same position, partial tiling.

I live in Surrey, what's a realistic budget?

Thanks in advance for any guidance provided

I'm in Scotland and we had our bathroom replaced last November. We had old bathroom ripped out, walls taken back to the bricks, pipes moved, ceiling lowered, new lights, new suite, vanity and mirror, new shower, wet wall instead of tiles which I find much easier to clean and you don't need to worry about the grout going yucky. Walls were plasterboarded, skimmed and painted, new cupboard door and bathroom door. Including labour the total cost was £5,400. It's the best room in the house now.

Any other responses - does that mean I should be thinking of a budget between £8-10k for something in Surrey/London?

We're in Oxfordshire. Our plumbing costs for the family bath were £2264, though that was with Vinyl flooring, which cut the tiling costs! The fittings were about £1100 including a sink unit, bath, shower, shower screen and toilet. Vinyl was £110 fitted by a local guy

I'm in Surrey/London and just about to get a full rip out refit done on ours that sounds similar size, our first quote was around the £6000 mark but the other 2 were £2600/£2800 but with us supplying all paint and bathroom fittings which all came to about £1200 do all in it'll be just shy of £4000

The bathstore quoted me £4K for bathroom suite, shower, taps, etc. That's prob where I'm going wrong. Where did others source their supplies from?

We got pretty much everything from Victorian plumbing. A few builders advised us against Victoria plumb though so don't get them confused

£4k for a bathroom suite is quite pricey IMHO. You will be able to get a nice one for less than that. Altogether including fitting tiles and so on I don't think you could do it for under £4k. And probably nearer £5k to £6K or the sky's the limit.

horsesforcorses · 23/08/2017 22:39

Ours was about 6k. South by north of London

It adds up tho.... shower tray, shower screen, nice shower, bath, sink, taps, WC, cabinet, towel rail

£4K for all of that isn't crazy.

5rivers7hills · 24/08/2017 10:36

I'd budget aroun £8k for everything inc labour if you just want partially tiled

Viviennemary · 24/08/2017 11:35

I was thinking OP meant bathroom suite that is bath, toilet and sink for £4K was expensive. And then extras on top of that.

Just had ours done. New Bathroom suite, shower, walls and ceiling replastered, spot lights fitted, walls and floor tiled, new vanity and mirror, new window and door. We went for a range of medium to high price range for bath and tiles ( metro tiles on walls, expensive fired earth on floor).
Its a small room 2.5 x 3 meters, we are in Wales. it took about 4 weeks to complete and cost £5500. it is worth every penny as it was totally hideous and now looks wonderful!

Looks for a local company. We found an independent supplier in Swindon who only uses British made stuff, but his prices were on a par with the likes of B&Q. We'd already bought the ensuite toilet & sink unit off of Victorian Plumbing in the sale and the quality between that and what we bought for the family bathroom was stark ! Our shower enclosure in the ensuite was £550 inc the tray and we went for the thicker spec glass.

Our toilet, sink unit, bath + screen plus taps and waste was £900. All really lovely. We found the bathstore a rip off

Whattodowithaminute · 24/08/2017 18:25

Our builder is saying £6-7k for good quality fittings (duravit, kaldewei, bristan) that will last and labour costs inc tiling, having done some research today looks like this could still be tight but we are having a lot of other work done so trades will be on site which may impact on labour costs I suppose.

maryf123 · 25/08/2017 10:25

It hinge on how good the walls are for tiling, whether plumbing needs moving if you are rearranging the layout £1500+ there's quite enough a lot to do. Smile

I live in SW London and paid £2100 for labour for our bathroom to be taken out, disposed of, walls replastered - suite (bath with shower over the top - not included shower) fitted in similar places and tiling of the floor and walls to half height in the room but full height around the bath.

I then sourced and paid for tiles, bathroom suite and fittings on top. In total I would say it cost around £6-7k all in for a really nice finish. We were lucky though, we had a brilliant builder who was a total neat freak so did everything perfectly.
