Im about to re do my living room from scratch but not sure whats not naff nowadays. Its a 1960's ex council house- living room is smallish box shape. Dh is putting in a log burner with beam over it. I want grey sofas ( currently brown leather).
I was thinking grey walls but also want to inject some colour. What about geometric wallpaper is that ok? Help i just don't know where to start.

Just go with what you like! You're the one that's going to be living there, so yours is the only opinion that matters.

LexieLulu · 20/08/2017 17:32

I like them as long as they're not too OTT (thinking bright red or lime flowers) xx

milkysmum · 20/08/2017 17:32

I know but just looking for a bit of inspiration really Smile

Would silver be boring?

I think theirs a threat that some of the wallpapers on that pik could be chavvy. I suppose it's how you work it xx

If I want colour I do the two largest walls magnolia and the two smaller walls (could be more than two but you get me) the colour I want. Right now my front room has the two smaller walls red and two larger ones magnolia

Grey is on its way out I think. Get some magazines and start a mood board with things you like.

BossyBitch · 20/08/2017 18:10

Do it the way you like it and stop worrying about what's 'naff'. Smile

I think mustard goes really well with grey, you could also throw in a bit of orange/sky blue & lots of geometric patterns around at the moment giving a slightly retro vibe, looks really good with teak or white furniture.
My dd has just decorated her living room grey/mustard with lots of different patterned cushions in a mix of greys/mustard/light blue & looks very welcoming & cosy, she did one wall in'retro ochre' from wilkinsons paint range, go with what you like OP, if we all followed mn rules the world would be a very boring place😀

Try Houzz or Pinterest for some inspiration

Badhairday1001 · 20/08/2017 22:58

I'm about to paint my living room taupe, I love it, it's still a bit grey but browny too. Like a warm mushroom. I'm copying my sister because she is great at anything interior design and putting cream, grey, black and some metallic in too. I'm a bit worried it will be too neutral but at the moment it's just white so will be an improvement on that.

Bonelessbanquet · 20/08/2017 23:00

Dark blue and mustard

Bluntness100 · 20/08/2017 23:04

I think a feature wall is only naff when it's done in a cheap in your face wallpaper, think big flowers and bright colours. If you go subtler it is much more tasteful And aesthetically pleasing. It can also enhance a room. However it's really all about what you want, who cares what others think.

dontcallmelen · 20/08/2017 23:06

Badhair, I love taupe as well such an easy colour on the eye I have used Dulux perfectly taupe, a lovely colour mushroomy grey.

elephantoverthehill · 20/08/2017 23:11

Forget grey, forget wall paper and feature walls, go maggie and white. And then buy pictures, have amazing curtains (they are feature walls), cushions, plants and flowers.

I'm with Elephant-for a 1960s house consider a Sandi inspired look.White Wales, grey sofas, lots of green plants, colour from prints.Check out Desanio ,King and McGraw and Etsy for these. However this is my style not yours!I don't think feature walls are naff though..but I would paint rather than wallpaper as I get bored easily and change my mind.About to paint a wall a dark blue colour in our totally white house to lift the white framed prints I have on it...easy to paint over if I change my mind.
