A 'grown up' pink paint?

EnidButton · 18/08/2017 16:36

I'm looking for a pink shade of paint to put in my dressing room. Probably only on one wall and paired with white (currently F&B All White). Might change it to Dulux Timeless.

But I don't want a sugary pastel pink or a deep pink. Trying to find one that's more powdery or muted? Rose maybe?

If that makes any sense to anyone, please can you suggest one?

Hoping it will be easier than when we were choosing a grey. 25 tester pots later...

Is Benjamin Moore the F&B of America? I keep seeing their paints everywhere. Really good range of shades. Think there's an online stockist for the uk...

I'm going to end up with a ton of testers again.

Been having the same dilemma. Extensive research has led me to Helmsleys Cheriton Bloom. It's Homebase's homage to F and B. Not actually used it yet but it's going up!

DDs room is painted in peignoir from F&B, it is a really really lovely colour, I want to do our bedroom in it too when we get around to redecorating.

From the small range at our local diy stores I have testers for, F&B Middleton pink and Calamine, Laura Ashley Chalk Pink and Crown Pashmina.

Regretting not getting Pegnoir to test. They didn't have Little Greene unfortunately nor Crown Whisper of Pashmina.

Just debating whether to test them straight on the wall or to paint some white paper and blu-tack them up? The wall I'm painting is F&B All White so a very pure white with no real undertones so guess paper will work. What do you think?

Just remembering how hard it was to cover the grey swatches.

Like the Hensley Cheriton blush too. Might have to go back.

I swatched on to cardboard so I could move them around and try them next to things like carpet.

I think Middleton pink has won. It's a bit sweeter than I'd envisioned but it's changing nicely with the light and still has some dusky-ness to it. Seems like a good balance of warm and cool undertones. It goes very well with All White so bought some more of that to freshen up the rest of the room.

That's a good idea Stella. Oddly though, it looks completely different on the wall to the swatches I did on paper. They all do.

Might get some more testers but I'm feeling impatient to get on with it this week.

Yy Laura Ashley chalk pink, Dulux do a pretty pink called blush pink might be a bit pale though.

notafish · 20/08/2017 23:47

Teen Dd's room is painted in Pink Ground and I wish it were my room. It's a gorgeous grown up pink. However, I wouldn't put it in the dusky category.

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2017 23:53

Don't do it. There is no shade of pink that you won't hate after a week. I speak from bitter experience!

EnidButton · 20/08/2017 23:58

dont halk pink looks like a beige coloured foundation on the wall I tested it on. So strange as it looks nothing like it does on pics I've seen. I had thought it would be the one I picked.

not Thanks, if I decide to be patient I'll get some more testers next weekend and add that one to the list.

Grin Jane It's only a small wall so it's ok. Easy enough to paint over it if I hate it after a while. Where did you paint pink?

Well, I'll throw Angie into the mix (Little Greene). It's definitely pink but so is Middleton Pink.

EnidButton · 21/08/2017 00:07

A search for LG Angie brought up this image. Looks like pink is as tricky as white. Grin

Had pale pink in front hall which I didn't like but didn't have to sit looking at at least. Then I chose a dusky pink for the sitting room. Couldn't stand it from the minute it was painted but had to put up with it for a few years. I had to use white undercoat to cover it before I could repaint as it showed through everything. I should have learned my lesson as I had pink bedroom walls as a teenager which I also hated. I don't know what I was thinking. Never again!

NipperNapNope · 21/08/2017 00:12

I put calamine in my daughters room and it's not at all peachy but rather more cool than warm. It's a lovely shade that doesn't scream pink.

SwedishEdith · 21/08/2017 00:13

Ha. It's like the pink in Neopolitan ice cream but not jarring. (Is that the best you can say about pink?).

SwedishEdith · 21/08/2017 00:20

Actually, that photo is good for showing how the various pinks compare (open the page).

EnidButton · 21/08/2017 01:28

Yes, more testers needed before deciding either way. I'll let you know when if I decide. Thanks for all the good advice. Smile

When we painted our kitchen I think I spent as much on testers as the paint, OK with Dulux because I ordered them from Wilko at about £1.60 each and any that didn't look the right colour in the bottle I returned but testers for more expensive paints are £4-5 a go and in a tin so you can't see the colour

RebelRogue · 21/08/2017 09:09

My pink (and grey) ,might be too bright for you,but I love it.

Dulux not Fuji

Greypaw · 21/08/2017 19:02

I have F&B Peignoir in the Drawing Room. The photographers that work here love it as it brings out really lovely skin tones.
