Bathroom paint, is it necessary?

Does anyone know if bathroom paints are better than just ordinary emulsion in a bathroom? Does anyone know the science behind it or had a bad experience of using ordinary emulsion in a bathroom. My Dcs are now teenagers so don't splash in the bath anymore, but my bathroom is quite small and prone to condensation although I am having a ceiling dehumidifier fitted, TIA

Tried it a few years ago - it peeled and blistered. Don't bother. For an extra tenner or so, just get bathroom paint.

I have non bathroom normal paint in mine, it's totally fine. I can see the moisture after a shower, it goes kind of darker but disappears and no issues, however the wall where the bath and shower is is tiled, so it's the opposite wall that's painted.

Thanks. I am a bit cynical and wondered if it had become a bit of a marketing ploy.

It def looks different on the wall-more of a sheen to it and it's wipeable whereas normal paint some comes off if you try to wipe it clean. I think it's actually worth the extra in this instance.

Bluntness that is how my bathroom is although the tiles don't go all the way to the ceiling but well past head height.
It's not so much about money as the colours available. May be I will have to go to one of those mixing things rather than but off the shelf.

I used normal Dulux silk on my bathroom & the condensation marked it. In some places it left stripes from where the water ran down a bit. Our bathroom can get a bit steamy though if we have a long shower.

I've now painted it in bathroom paint & not had any problems. It's a soft sheen finish &I quite nice

You can get paint mixed in bathroom finish by Dulux, Johnstone's and Valspar. However, it isn't foolproof - we had our chosen colour mixed using the Dulux machine in Homebase and the two tins were different colours Confused

I'd agree with TheNumberfaker. We did exactly the same thing and very soon wished we hadn't used standard paint. For the extra cost it is totally worth using and helps prevent mould as well as being wipeable.

Thank you for your advice I am off to B&Q once I have finished my coffee.
