Anyone got an electric log burner?

I would love a log burner but can't afford it and also going to have chimney removed as part of loft conversion so I'm looking at the fake electric log burners. I have a nice opening in the chimney breast in the lounge in which to put so I'm looking for something that looks as realistic as possible

Any experiences or recommendations ?

Thanks

Sorry for popping up again on one of your threads Grin

I have the VonHaus unit in black. I bought it from Tesco Direct. I saw it onsale in loads of shops last winter branded as VonHaus or another brand. The Beldray Pavia on the Homebase website looks identical.

It works perfectly as a focal point for my room. I love that you can have it on flame-effect only (no heat) if you want to use it as a focal point. My central heating is really efficient so I tend to do this instead of running it as a heater. If it's not cold enough for the central heating I close the doors and warm the room up using the fan heater then turn it back to flame/no heat Smile

I'm sure the flame effect isn't the most realistic and it doesn't come with a remote control (the switches are concealed under a panel on the front). The unit itself is very plasticky which is a bit of a surprise! It's also quite noisy on fan heater function but the tv disguises it. I've never heard a quiet fan heater tbh.

It meets my requirements and you can't tell it's plastic from a distance. I have mine in the fireplace alcove with a floating oak beam above. I might fashion a fake flue to make it truly resemble a woodburning stove!

I didn't shop extensively and I don't know if there are better units out there. This one is rated #1 on Amazon.

Ours is a Dimplex. I wouldn't say it is realistic but does the job.

How much do you wish to spend? A real log burner will cost on average about 3k to buy and install, more if it's a bigger stove. Electric stoves come in all price ranges, from 50 quid to well over a thousand, so still much cheaper.

I think much depends on how much you wish to spend and what's best in that budget range.

We had one in our house when we moved in. Ghastly thing that drank electricity. We've ripped it out and currently have an open fire while we wait for multi stove to be fitted. I'm not sure if all electric fireplaces are so electricity thirsty, but the one here cost a bloody fortune even when just lit up without heat.

I decided it was unlikely any of them would look particularly realistic so went with the cheapest one that had reasonable reviews Wink

I kept my receipt so was ready to return to Tesco if I strongly disliked it upon unboxing it.

I'll try and remember to post a pic tomorrow Smile

I've got a Dimplex one as well. It doesn't look that realistic in the cold light of day, but it looks quite nice in winter with the lights on low watching TV. We don't have a recessed chimney breast To hide it away, so it was all on show (including the cable).

we have a Gazco -vogue electric range, looks the same as a normal log burner in cast iron, remote for changing colour of flames and stones, you can add your own logs or effects, really nice even with just the flames on. About £1000 but not as expensive as a log burner, better for the environment and not expensive to run, has a built in thermostat. i’d recommend it! bought from H G Mathews

I just bought the 2000w Marko Lexham stove fire last week. Really impressed with how realistic it looks for the £40 I paid. It gives out a decent amount of heat as well.
