Dinning room into adult space

Has anyone done this? Pics would be great! We have a table in out kitchen. We don't use our dinning room well. I'm unsure how to do this or what we could do. Room is about 10ft by 12ft. Pinterest is good for ideas but I need to see realistic rooms please.

What do you want to fit in there ? A tv and extra seating space ? A reading space ? A music room ? Garden room? Bar? Library ?
You can see where I'm going with this ! So if you could add a bit more detail that would help !

Houzz has lots of photos of rooms that can inspire ?! And you can do word specific searches - might be worth looking there too ?

I'm think a quiet space to read, listen to music and relax! We live in a hectic loud house. I'm wanting comfortable seating, maybe a daybed. Also looking at incorporating better storage for coats, shoes, hats, bags. Nice lighting. Somewhere comfortable for when we have friends over that we can hear ourselves think! Also the room gets alot more light than our living room so it's nicer during the day in the winter.

Maybe look at sound proofing the room to some extent - systems that do this often only knock 50mm or so off the overall size - but can help the space feel like a retreat by cutting out tv noise or music from other inhabitants in the home .

Conversational seating tends to work well in an 'opposite' set up -ie two sofas ( long enough to put your feet up ) opposite each other with either a small lamp table each end - or if there's room - a coffee table or low footrest type stool between the sofas .

Bookcases can work well at muffling sounds - so if you don't want to soundproof - try adding bookcases to diving walls - similarly add storage cabinets for coats and shoes etc

Hope this link takes you to a project I did recently that had a sofa area that could also work - if you have a lot of books to accommodate - making less room for two sofas - so in this set up it would be one sofa and two chairs ..

We have always done this. One main living room and a second living room, or play room as we call it. We never have used a dining room as a dining room in any house.

Both living rooms have sofas, coffee tables, tv in, the difference is the second also holds the play station x box etc etc.

In the second living room we have two two seater sofas, a chaise longue, a coffee table, some tall plants, an antique wooden storage box, which holds all the games, and a corner unit which houses the tv, and games consoles, and a couple of side tables with lamps on, cushions etc.

Pretty much the same in the main room except that one had the sound system, booze fridge etc, side board and no games consoles, no chaise longue and the two sofas are four seaters.

It's lovely in the play room but my husband and daughter use it a lot for gaming. My daughter studies in there. I tend to just use the main room and we also socialise in the main one. When my daughter has friends over they socialise in the play room, whilst we stay in the main living room.

I wouldn't hesitate to do it, and once you have you will always want two living rooms. For us a dining room would seldom be used and we have seating for up to eight in the kitchen. Totally a better use of space for us.

The play room is pale eau de nil ( like a pale greeny duck egg) with cream carpets and squishy ( non shiny!) leather sofas, and is really pretty, so we didn't make it look like a lesser room.
