Oak Furnitureland Furniture Guard Insurance

Hi. I've just had a look at some new furniture in Oak Furnitureland and a very enthusiastic salesman put a quote together for me. I was just interested in seeing what they whole set would cost, so wasn't paying attention to the details beyond furniture items and delivery times. When I look at the printout now I'm home he has added delivery charge and "Furniture Guard" insurance. The insurance adds nearly 10% to the costs! Their website isn't very clear - it just says "from £29.99", which is a far cry from over £200 that I have on the quote.

Has anyone bought from them, and did you buy the insurance? Do you think its worth adding 10%? Or was he just selling the extras to boost company profits and his commission? Many thanks.

What do their terms say the insurance covers? I doubt it is anything other than a commission opportunity for the sales person. If you have contents cover with accidental damage cover that should cover everything, but do read the TS and C's.

Thanks wowfudge. The T&Cs show accidental damage, including watermarks, scratches, heat marks and pet damage, with the usual exclusions. I suppose for a table water and heat damage may be useful, and with chewing puppies the pet damage may be used, but I'm still struggling to justify the additional cost.

I've never once insured my furniture and it is all fine. Teach people to use coasters and you won't get water or heat marks.

Thanks Buckinghambae - googled Shock and don't think I'll go for the insurance IF I decide to buy from them.

I was a little put off by the pushy salesman. I was a little steamrollered into a quote ("It will lock in the price, as its going to all go up soon"), but that didn't bother me. However towards the end he kept referring to it as an order, even asking whether I was going to pay a deposit or the full amount, even though id made it clear at the start I was just looking and measuring up.

I did like the furniture range and both the wardrobe and large chest were perfect sizes for the space available in an unusually shaped spare room/office/grandkid's play area, but will probably keeping looking elsewhere.

It took ages for me to get a refund from this company. They didn't appear to be very organised.

Do they really use solid oak with no veneer? I have a dining table made from solid white oak and despite using glasses and mugs without coasters every day, putting hot pots and pans on it and generally just treating it like, well, a table, it has no damage to it whatsoever. Just shows how shit their furniture is, that they have to insure it for signs of regular wear and tear.

A few years on after getting insurance we found them offering to fix/replace parts of our couch.

this must be the first warrantee I ever profited from.
