Is there such a thing as a stylish stainless steel kettle that will last more then 2 years?!

I've put this in home decoration as the look of it is important. However having had our last 2 kettles break after a couple of years I'm looking for recommendations for one that will last as well as look good.

All the ones I like the look of get rubbish reviews!

I've ruled out all the dualit ones as they get terrible reviews. Also ruled out the beautiful alessi one.

I ruined my beautiful alessi one by. It putting the whistle in properly, it boiled dry and melted all over the kettle which warped
I'm still in mourning 15 years later
I have a Morphy Richards Accents one which has done well but is not SS, had it for at least 7 years though and only just succumbing to limescale at the top of the water level thingy.
I might just save for the Alessi
Less than helpful, sorry!

Am interested to see what responses you get/I have this problem!

trixymalixy · 24/06/2017 10:59

this dualit one hasn't got too many bad reviews. Also it says it's repairable.

What a shame about your lovely alessi kettle!! Can you buy a new bird for it or is the whole thing warped?

We've just started to buy cheap and replace. They all seem to start leaking after 18mo or so. The plastic one we had previously lasted 15 years!

I had a simple Cookworks stainless steel kettle it cost £10 I think ( it was a while ago) it lasted nearly 5 years Grin I thought it was a nice kettle not sure if anyone would describe it as stylish, if I can find a pic of it I will post one.

theresamustgo · 24/06/2017 11:04

Presume you mean electric,. My problem too. Am trying a Daewo one now. Will get back to you in 2 years!

It was this one, I'm not sure if you can buy it in shops still, we got ours from argos at the time.

trixymalixy · 24/06/2017 11:31

Yes, I mean electric kettles.

I was wondering whether cheap and disposable was the way to go. That's what I've decided with washing machines after too much stress getting an expensive one repaired constantly.

this might do. Shame it is black rather than stainless steel on the outside.

Sometimes the cheaper ones actually end up lasting longer.

trixymalixy · 24/06/2017 11:42

It seems that way looking at reviews. The fancy ones seem to not last long at all. Or is it perhaps that the more you spend the more angry you are when it breaks early so more likely to review?!

After getting totally fed up of replacing kettles yearly I finally brought a Heston Blumenthal sage kettle and so far it's been fine for 18 months

TheCrowFromBelow · 24/06/2017 11:59

It was utterly beyond repair I'm quite lucky I didn't set fire to the house.
I've managed to stab a hole in my Normann Copenhagen washing up bowl as well - clearly can't be trusted!

YorkshireTea86 · 24/06/2017 12:43

We had a breville that lasted about 5 years, it broke just last week and we've replaced it with this one
www.argos.co.uk/product/4026224 although we got it for £20

bonzo77 · 24/06/2017 12:49

Magimix one here. Had it about 7 years.

I've had my plastic Bodum kettle for twenty years next year and the old girl's still going strong! I don't know what Bodum do in stainless steel but assuming they do something handsome (I think my plastic one's not bad looking) I can vouch for their longevity!

smellylittleorange · 25/06/2017 07:38

I've heard good things about the breville. I have a dualit only a year old though so ask me next yearGrin

PinkFluffs1 · 25/06/2017 07:46

We have the Smeg kettle in chrome - it's amazing!

kiplingcakes · 25/06/2017 07:47

I have had a stainless steel dualit kettle for over 10 years. Never had any problems at with it (touch wood) and it has been used a lot over the years.

TheColdDoesBotherMeAnyway · 25/06/2017 07:49

My dualit kettle was a wedding present 10 years ago and it's still going strong so don't write them off. The matching toaster is also still working, although it has needed a new knob in that time.

trixymalixy · 25/06/2017 14:19

I think the older dualit kettles were good, but it seems that the newer Ines aren't very reliable unfortunately. My dualit toaster has been going for decades.

For an electric one I really recommend this www.kenwoodworld.com/uk/products/breakfast/kettles/scene-kettle-zjm180bk-0w21011059 have had it for 4 + years, regularly descale it and it comes in bright colours.

However, when it dies I'm going to replace it with one of these www.themadegoodshop.co.uk/aluminium-kettle-with-wooden-handle.html as have read that it's more energy efficient to boil on gas, and it takes up no space on counter and they look cool.

LeannePerrins · 29/06/2017 19:08

We had a fantastic Magimix kettle which lasted for six years before dying last autumn, four of which were in London with rock-hard water, but I don't think they make them any more.

We now have this cuisinart and it is brilliant. I scoffed at the multi-temp settings and digital readout but I have had to eat my words as I regularly use it to make coffee and green tea at the right temp.

Do you live in a very hard water area? I wonder if that might shorten the life of your kettle.
