Cheap blackout blinds

I'm going to be moving to rental accommodation for a short while and want to get some blackout blinds. I normally use Hillarys blinds but don't want to spend that much on a short rental. Can anyone recommend a cheap company?

Buy a couple of 'gro blinds', they are for baby rooms really but they sucker to the Windows. You can buy them second hand, but they also sell really well second hand if you wanted to get your money back when you move.

Ikea. Ours have held up really well and were reasonablely priced.

Blind2go are good and cheap

In your position and properly skint, I went to the local builders yard and got some massively bits of cardboard packaging. Cut them to size x 2, glued the bits together with the grain running opposite ways for strength, balanced them between windowsill and curtain rail. Totally effective, cost £1 for glue.

Should add during the day I took them down and leant them against the wall. Not massively visually appealing but very cost-effective!

Blind in a box.
Mine lasted for months.
They cost a few pounds for a box of 6. Amazon sell them.

www.blinds-direct.co.uk - have used these guys numerous times for massive windows in the house. Service is great and efficient.

Blinds2go
Brilliant, just make sure you measure up properly as they are made to your measurement and I don't think you can return them.
There is some good cheap options on there too, their black out blinds are amazing.

Argos do cheap blackout blinds in a good range of sizes.

furryelephant · 07/06/2017 22:19

I got a set from Amazon (found the gro blind fell down multiple times a night) that you attach sticky back Velcro to the side of the window and the blind sticks to it! So much easier than the suction cup ones and doesn't fall down, can't even tell it's daylight when it's up Grin

You can emulate what furry is referring to by buying blackout fabric and Velcro from dunelm.

Or tin foil and blue tack

CharlieandLolaCat · 07/06/2017 22:29

I bought a couple of metres of blackout material, some stick and sew Velcro and sewed the sew bit on to the line and stuck the other bit on to the window frame. Is brilliant, completely eliminates light and you can take it down when you don't need them. My child has always slept brilliantly and I think this is part of the reason.

Hadn't even thought of doing that Blush45 bloody pounds that thing cost! Blaming the baby brain

DancingGoose · 08/06/2017 00:54

i've also done the velcro thing which worked well and good for rentals as you can easily remove it when you move out. now i have black out roller blinds from b&q which can be cut down to size if needed. they are pretty cheap and are great.

I love the Amazon blind in a box. Got them for past couple of months since builders next door can see right into bedroom (normally there is a wall there). Lovely! And don't look too bad!

Dalesgirl16 · 08/06/2017 16:37

We are looking at about six months so I don't want to be sticking things to the wall. I will look up the retailers thanks!
