I am in love with this, but the price is too much for my limited means. can anyone find a cheaper version of this. www.next.co.uk/g50834s2#891366
I need cupboards and big glazed doors but cant seem to find one I like as much
the ones I have found seem to have a open top with cupboards above and are more Welsh dresser style

Have you tried eBay? Put in glazed dresser, loads come up but I can't work out how to link them!
Some are the wrong colour but most could be sanded & painted

Just on there now nancy, it has shown be a lovely one which is more expensive haha, however there are some nice cheaper ones coming up

Have you got a local auction rooms?
Plenty of modern as well as antique stuff moves through sales these days. I've just seen a massive solid light oak dresser sell for £150!

nancy75 · 02/06/2017 16:47

I hate shabby chic but don't be put off painting altogether, it is possible to paint furniture properly without that terrible chalk paint look Grin

thethoughtfox · 02/06/2017 19:22

It's not solid wood so not worth that amount of money.

The Lundy range linked to above is really nice and better value for money, we searched everywhere for a dresser and ended up buying one from a local supplier, as they are painted solid pine with oak tops, rather than coated mdf. They're definitely not shabby chic, which put me off most second-hand ones, as my house is already shabby/rustic enough!

We fitted a huge ikea kitchen in our last house and I really wanted a dresser like this but couldn't afford it. So we made something similar out of ikea kitchen components and it looked brilliant. You just need to buy a couple of base units, put a wooden worktop on them then hang some glazed wall units above the worktop. You can make the gap between them as big or small as you like. Ikea also so lots of 'finishing touches' like decorative plinths and mouldings, to make the finished item look authentic.

These pics are some ideas from the ikea catalogue.

The buying guide is here and shows the prices for all the base and wall cabinets
I reckon you could do it for £400 all in. And you'd be able to choose drawer/door configurations and exactly how wide it is! A bespoke dresser in fact Smile
