Making Lined Curtains

I've got the fabric but am looking for an illustrated step by step guide online so I can cut the lining fabric to match up correctly and get a neat mitred corner finish. Any suggestions please?

I found a book from the library most helpful for proper curtains.

You want this book here

Will be the best £15 you spend, or £1 if you get it ordered in to your library.

I've found these to be good tutorials.

But in short the dimensions from the M&D book are:

  • cut lining 16cm narrower than main fabric (8cm each side) so when pressed, there is 4cm main fabric seen at the back.
  • Lining has double 3 inch hem
  • Main fabric has double 5 inch hem (these hems could be reduced for shorter / lighter curtains).

Set finished lower edge of lining 4cm above hem fold of main fabric, that way the mitred corner slips in neatly behind the lining.

Order of working:
-Join widths if needed

  • Stitch hem in lining and press up main hem
-Stitch lining to fabric at sides. -Turn up main fabric hem and hand sew (inc mitred corners) -Attach/make heading.

I made a pair of eyelet curtains last week so it's fresh in my mind.
