Bar stools with young children
ilovetosleep · 08/02/2017 13:16
Hi,
We are looking for 2 stools for our breakfast bar/island and had initially been looking for something with a back rest and a wide base as I know the 3 and 6 yr olds will sit there a lot. I cannot find anything I like at all which fits the bill and the only stools we agree on are backless wooden stools. Kids are pretty good generally but can be quite wriggly like most kids their age. Would you go for it or keep hunting for something safer, I can't bring myself to go for something I hate (e.g. Chrome round base, pleather seat etc)
Am I being precious?
Thanks in advance

I would probably keep looking for something with a backrest - but DD has coordination issues so that may influence me.
How about something like this?
If you post a link to the one you like (the backless wooden ones) that would help with ideas.

I guess you've already seen and ruled out something like these?

What style are you looking for, exactly?
ilovetosleep · 08/02/2017 17:07
Sorry yes should have put a link. Hope this works! Here are a couple we like, a similar style with a back just looks odd so I am going to have to forget that look completely I think.

Actually those Drift ones you linked to, minipie we have looked at in a different colour way. Will revisit those.
ilovetosleep · 08/02/2017 17:08
I'' also worried they'll tilt back on them...
minipie · 08/02/2017 17:23
Hmm, yes I can see why you like those they're nice!
these are similar but with a backrest?
I think tilting is a danger unless you go for the round chrome base ones but that's a very different look. You'd have to watch the 3 year old probably...

Nice minipie! Although there's a big gap between the seat and the backrest I wonder if they'd slip through there anyway!
Not keen on those Atlantic ones sorry napqueen thanks though!
minipie · 08/02/2017 17:30
Actually I think the ones you linked to aren't too bad as they do at least have a shaped seat rather than a completely flat (slippery) seat
ilovetosleep · 08/02/2017 17:30
Like these too but back rest seems a waste of time! www.swooneditions.com/granary-mango-wood-iron-contemporary-stool?utm_medium=sem&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=adwords+shopping&utm_term=granarystoolmangoiron

They're lovely but I think the back would give a false sense of security and even I might forget it's not a proper rest and lean back!
Tedsterteddington · 08/02/2017 19:09
I have these, they're great!

tedster that's the colour way we like. Are the nice and study and do your dc use them?
Gooseygoosey12345 · 08/02/2017 19:24
Look on Dwells website. They have some that have a thing round the back, not a whole back rest, kind of hard to explain but you'll see them on there
BBCK · 08/02/2017 19:28
Try John Lewis Xavier with 4 legs not gas-lift. Bought them recently and they are so comfortable as well as sturdy and stylish. Not cheap mind; I could only afford 2, am saving up for the others.
geekaMaxima · 08/02/2017 19:29
Slightly quirkier aesthetic on these:

We have school science lab bar stools which are backless. Our 3 year old manages them with no problem. She's actually worse on something with a back as she will lean on it so there's much more chance of it toppling over!
taketwofluffykittens · 08/02/2017 19:43
I really wanted these but they were too pricey and the wrong height. Very comfy though.

I love those Kartell ones too, had my eye on them but far too £££! Not so keen on any of the others though I'm afraid, I think it's between the Atlantic drift or the ones I liked in the first place...
Tedsterteddington · 09/02/2017 11:24
We have 3 children who all use them, they are impressively sturdy and well made. Easy to clean too! Highly recommend them. We had to wait a few weeks for stock but well worth the wait.
Tedsterteddington · 09/02/2017 11:27
Must add that we got these to replace shiny bar stools with a round metal base, they were a nightmare to keep clean with children!
